I've tried and tried to understand supply....

in all my games, and even though the explanation seems simple enough, I always have units starving. I'm not stupid. I have a college degree and can even figure out complicated problems, so I don't think it's because I don't have the capacity to understand. It's pretty frustrating at times because it shouldn't be so hard to figure out, but every turn I'm looking at someone or something that is completely out of supply.

... So, what I'm going to start doing is just posting screen-shots and game saves and asking why units are out of supply...

Also, I did not see it in the manual - I used supply filter and some areas are striped-shaded and others are just shaded. What does the blinking stripe-shaded mean?

Why does Yalu not have any supply? Is it because I don't have units there yet?

Ok, I figured out what the shaded area means. It's related to railroads.

Yalu

I do not believe there is a depot in Yalu at game start and Yalu is not a big city. If a city is level 1, 2 or 3 it will produce supplies but will not 'request' supplies from a nearby area.

You need a good depot chain and higher level depots will call for more supply than a low level depot.

Remember, supply wagons are the way to go when you need a supplied force in an otherwise low or no supply area.

I've seen all of my remote fleets suddenly go out of supply in a single turn playing as US. How do fleets draw supply so distant from home ports?

I'm playing the same scenario ... in this scenario you cannot build railways or depots ... so your armies need supply wagons and when you will reach Yalu, you will have some supply there. Then you need move supply wagons back to Soul, when empty ... be sure guard them, in this scenario you cannot build new one !!!

Green areas - regions where you can distribute supply, blinking areas - regions with depots . If you hover mouse over regions using this filter - you can see values of current supply distribution.
