The importance of guidance

Sat Jun 04, 2011 12:36 am

I bought Birth of America and loved the ideas in it,even if the subject wasn't of particular interest to me.
I followed with ACW,which being a subject of great interest to me got played constantly until I became confused by the changes in the many patches.
I gave the game a rest for a while but on my return never managed to quite remember what had changed and why.
I will buy PON,out of respect for the two Philippes ,who, not only have great ideas, but treat their customers with respect , humour and honesty rarely found amongst developers.
However I am nervous that the complexity of the game will leave me and others without University doctorates feeling hopelessly adrift.
I really want them to succeed, but fear that if many of us are not guided gently by advice of a higher magnitude than almost any previous game ,many will fall by the wayside to the detriment of AGEOD.
Please spend time early,to produce idiots guides to get some of us lesser mortals some hope that our efforts will be worthwhile.

You are lucky you didn't have to learn Advanced Squad Leader then ;) . The manual could as well have been enigma encoded to me. After some tutoring from experts I finally got it though.

Some games are complex and you simply have to choose whether your interest is worth your time to learn this game properly.

Still. We are all here to help each other, there are already some great strategy guides written for some nations and more will come. I just started a UK strategy discussion thread which perhaps is the seed for some kind of country guide. You do not need any kind of doctorate to play this, just enough interest in the subject. I personally think this game has the biggest potential of all AGEOD games so far and the combined material from this and Paradox forums will be more than enough for people to learn. I also find this game very complex but also very very interesting.

I think a multiplayer game could be perfect some on the job learning.
