Dual Role Leaders (Military & Administrative)

Mon Jun 14, 2010 3:23 pm

The game is looking good so far. I’m a little curious how some things will be treated in VGN. I’m just wondering if these things are decided yet -

1. Will there be a leader of your country? (With various abilities affecting the government the same way as generals affect battles – i.e. better or worse efficiency, more revolts, better diplomacy etc). If there are, will there be different ministers? Or will the leadership be abstracted with the player as leader? If this is the case you can ignore the other questions.

2. Can a general become a national leader / minister? There would be several examples such as Grant being a general and later the President

3. Can a leader be a general at the same time as being a government leader? While rare by this stage it did happen a few times. Some leaders/kings commanded armies while Garibaldi could have tried to make himself president of Italy while also commanding his armies.

4. Will there be different government types or a generic one size fits all?

There will be leaders, heads of state if you may. In regards to generals having political roles, I do believe it to be the case, however, I think that in only some rare situations (some South American republics, Belgium, Sardinia, for example) when they would be generals and political leaders at the same time.

Each nation has indeed a national leader, plus a set of attributes describing the orientations and traditions of the nation in various domains. These attributes generally changes with the ruler or because of your influence on the development of the nation.

Is it possible for example to get Francesco Solano Lopez as Paraguayan General and President. How will you display for example Paraguay fom 1850 until 1870?? Paraguay was the most advanced country in economics and military from 1850 until 1865 as this country starts aWar which nearly end its existence. But until 1865 Paraguay has the first railways, a foundry and some other manufactories and a good harbour in Asuncion with around 400 ships anchoring per year the time until 1865 and a stable economy without any debts. And it has a good school system with around 400 elementary schools built earlier in the 1850ies. The military was the biggest in South America at this time. Regretably Paraguays President has harmed the relations to Great Britain, the USA and France, so that it could not get any foreign support during the upcoming war as they are warring with Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina until the bitter end and the loss of about more of the half of its citizens.
I would like to play as Paraguay and to do better...

Remember, VgN is designed to be played as the major nations of the era. Nations like Paraguay are not designed to be played by humans. However, modders will easily be able to create playable nations either for individual scenarios, or the grand campaign, but it is more involved than just activating a nation.

No hard constraint though, with enough attention to details, you can render the playing of Paraguay as interesting as playing a major.
