Some issues with 1.05h

Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:39 pm

Okay, I've been playing a bit further into the 1914 scenario since the game is running better now.

Strict turn based/army-by-army/2-player mode/Central Powers

  • Objective cities
In September 1914 I took Nancy and Verdun from France. I gather that the loss of Nancy gives a NW penalty to France and a NW bonus to Germany, while the loss of Verdun gives a NW penalty to France only. The game reported to me the penalty and bonus for Nancy, but reported nothing regarding Verdun. Issue? A way to check if France also lost NW for Verdun's fall?
  • Merging detachments
I'm still having difficulties in some cases trying to merge single-corps detachments into its army unit when in the same region. This works in some cases and not in others, with no seeming basis for distinguishing. Is there something I should be aware of on this?
  • AI playing adverse events
Russia appeared to play a "Strikes" event on itself, requiring me as CP to select the region it would have to garrison. I thought these had been repaired?
  • Inability to shift corps to reserve
I have noted that in some armies I am unable to shift corps from/to the reserve. Again, this works sometimes and not others. For instance I was able to shift reserve corps in all German armies, but not Austrian. Again, am I missing something here?
  • Placing naval reinforcements
Namely the German BC Derfflinger, which doesn't seem to want to go into the German scout fleet. I try to place it as I would a normal reinforcement, in a land or sea region, but it won't go. I did something with a right-click and it was placed as a separate detachment of the scout fleet, but I couldn't merge it with the scout fleet afterwards. I'm confused about this process.
  • Placing reinforcements in HQ Box
When I successfully place a reinforcement in an HQ in the HQ Box, the HQ Box scrolls back up to the top, forcing me to scroll way down to where I was to place another reinforcement in the same HQ. Very tedious.

NB: I've now upgraded to 1.05h so that is the version I'm playing under.

Ok, I will try to reproduce.

You could post here a savegame, giving me exact informations on what to try. I will so able to investigate better. ;)

Perhaps in that case it was a mandatory event.

Strange. I placed it several times, without troubles, in harbor areas. Then the merging never generated troubles... Ok, I will try soon again.

Already done in 1.05H

You surely refer to what I wrote in the Change Log for 1.05G:
- Added a check that should avoid the play of not-mandatory events (stratagems) done by the AI against herself

Unfortunately, "Strike" events are mandatory: once drawn, they are enacted against the drawing nation. Nothing to do, only take the strike. :(

Ah, well that's good to know! (about Strikes)

I will see what I can do about getting Save Games for some of the other issues I reported. Thanks Cal.

Yes Marquee, the savegames for the "merging detachments" and "inability to shift corps from/to the reserves" are precious!
Also, what you could do in order to help my poor brain (:bonk :) is to write exactly which detachments generate problems. :D

Some issues with 1.05h

Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:01 am

Okay, I've attached two Save Games:
  • October14
This save shows how I cannot place SMS Derfflinger in the German scout fleet using normal reinforcement placement technique. It just won't be placed in Wilhelmshaven. Also, it should show whether or not France lost NW for losing Verdun in addition to Nancy.
  • October14(3)
This save shows how I am unable to move the XIIIth Armee Detachment (2 corps) in Val de Moselle to Nancy with XIIIth Armee activated. Every time I try to move it, it gives me a popup asking me if I want to merge with IVth Armee (in Val de Moselle) or abort the merger. It doesn't allow the move into Nancy. I can sometimes move this detachment further back into Germany but not into Nancy or Metz.

Ok, tested, and I can't do much, sorry... :(
The reason is that the German fleets are displayed on the sea, not inside the land area, so when you drag & drop the reinforcing naval squadron over the sea, the game engine believes you are trying to deploy the unit over a coastal sea zone. In fact, so it does: a new naval detachment appears in Helgoland Bay! Try deploying the unit over the Wilhelmasheven land area. ;)

I tried your savegame, with no problems, both for Nancy and Metz.
Doing tests with the default display mode (3d animated soldiers). Also, I did not dropped the stack over another stack (in Metz, of course, because Nancy is empty).

Calvinus, i am not 100% sure with this one but i notice that Hindenburg doesn´t appear in the VIII army in August. I started 5 games to test a few game strategies and only once he appears there. But after loading the save game he is lost. I can send you the savegame if you need it. I haven´t notice this under 1.05e only with f & h.

I testing the Schlieffen plan right now and I see Hindenburg at the head of VIII German army.
Already in Early August 1914.

Edit: Russians have adopted the Grand Duke plan.

Checked all warplans: Hindenburg is deployed in VIII army with the following plans: Moltke, Hindenburg and Schlieffen... no matter about Russian plan.

Strange. Tried a new game and Hindenburg appears. :bonk: But here is the savegame of my last game. Hindenburg appears normally and after saving and reloading during the Early August military phase he disappears. (Schlieffen / Czar Warplan)

Another small bug with 1.05h: The Entente AI can make two diplomatic actions per turn.

Ok, fixed, thanks.

The reason: AI was so quick that was able to schedule the second mission even before the first one was really enqueued! :D

I have tried deploying over Wilhelmshaven and have no better luck. I'd think that this would be something you need to fix because it is causing a problem with deployment. It's not like you can really do something else; it's the German fleet for Pete's sake.

Yes, I went back and lo and behold the issue was gone! ...only to arise in subsequent activations in other regions where units of different armies/detachments were present in the same region. This appears to be a bug that arises after you play the game a bit with multiple activations in the same session (a fresh game start appears to clear up the issue). Something gets messed up in the interface after awhile and this "Merge units?" dialog keeps popping up when moving from regions containing different armies to another region. You need to play a bit, not just try it on a fresh load. :bonk:

You didn't say if you were able to verify if France had been penalized for losing Verdun, though. Could you tell?

If I drop on Wilhelmshaved, a third (naval) stack is created, then I can merge. Did you try?

No time yet, sorry. I'm struggling with the Spanish version... :cuit:

Yes, I somehow got it into Wilhelmshaven as a third naval stack, but it was done using a right click operation of some kind; a left click on Wilhelmshaven didn't work. Also, I was not able to merge it with the scout fleet after it dropped as a separate stack. The following month, however, it merged automatically as some other land stacks do as well (after I am unable to merge them myself in a previous turn).
