Just an important remark:

Yesterday I tested the install of this patch, having some problems (game not running fine). Probably this was caused by the hundred of times I installed the patch :mdr:

So at the end I was forced to:

a) make a backup of saved-games;
b) uninstall the game and do a fresh installation + patch.

So please do so if you have similar problem! ;)

Calvinus, not to step on your toes and I know that you are very busy making WWI good, but please, please make your patches fool-proof. I am not ready to install patches which force me to do the uninstall-install routine. You could use a clean system and try the patching process with this...
Thanks for your efforts!

As Philippe Thibaut told us, it is a non-official (beta) patch. So, in a next step there will be an offical release of the patch.
Other members asked for a beta patch, to help things improving.
Because of this please don't blame them for following the wishes of other forum members

Dear Kaiser1918, this is a beta-patch. Everybody is free to take part to the beta-testing of the fixes and improvements or not, or even in a second stage (after all testers have posted positive reports), provided also that this patch is not published on the web-site, but only on the forum for our private playtests...

In addition, I'm respecting the wishes of the same forum members who asked for a beta trial of next patches.

Maybe we should have a public beta subforum to avoid confusion? Beta patch links could be posted here in the general discussion, but beta threads could go to the public beta subforum.

Perhaps Tamas is right. I do not know the practices of AgeOD forum team. Maybe they can give us the light. :neener:

In the AGE games it is usual to post the beta patches, as a sticked thread, on the "Help to Improve" sub-forum of the respective game. The thread is also usually well labeled as "beta patch X.XX"

Having been one of the voices asking for posting patches as beta to help not only improving the game but also to help "protect" the game (and developer) image, I wish to thank you very much for your initiative  . Later tonight I will try to get some time to test it.

Can you please try to make a fresh install from zero and then apply the patch. You are having the same problems like me yesterday night.

You have a texture loading problem. Your video card is not powerful enough apparently. We are working on a way to fix this, but this is not so easy.. :bonk:

Is the 104a a comprehensive patch, or should we install 104 first, then 104a?
It had caused CTD during scenario load up on my PC.

Arghhh!!! The same problems on me! You have to: backup your savegame, uninstall, do a fresh installation from zero of the game, apply the patch. :(

104a is comprehnsive.

After re-installing and patching with 104a, the game is working better than it has so far. I have actually have gotten to October with no CTD. I'm not so sure if seiges are working correctly, but it does not hang or crash on that, or anything else so far. The whole game is running smoother.

I have no idea why, but my RAM usage has increased to just over 2 gigs while playing. Previously, it was using 1.6 gigs (normal idle usage is about 350 MB). I know nothing of programming, I can just tell you what I see. Since the initial install, I have watched system use very carefully through hours of (attmpted) play. I do feel safe in saying you fixed more than what was listed for this beta.

BTW, my PC only has 1 gig of RAM, so I'm running on vitual memor ( New ram is in the mail). CPU is runing at or near 100% most of the time while playing (Athlon 3500+ NV 256 graphics card).

You are making excellent progress-thanks, and hang in there.

Thanks a lot Maestro. The game map occupies a lot of RAM... 700MB! Probably you have loaded "more map" than the previous match...

You are correct. This is the first time I chose to load the whole map at the start. So, I guess that explains the additional ram use.

After re-installation, does one first apply pre-order activation patch before applying 104a ??

Indeed. :)

I not familiar with the exact ways people browse these forums, but there are many ways that a new forum would make absolutely no difference. (With my way of using "New Posts" as my forum gateway, I'd see no difference, but I don't base my perception of common forum habits on my own ;) )

Beta-patches are posted in clearly named threads and with a clear warning in the first post about this being a beta patch. Discussion about a given betapatch should be in its thread and when the betapatch is outdated, it'll simply slip slowly into the oblivion of forum page 2 and beyond :)

If it is a problem that people are caught unawares and install a beta patch when not intending to do so, I think it would be a more successful way to address that by including a confirmation screen in the beta patch's installer about it being a beta patch, what it means and ask a confirmation about wanting to install a beta patch before proceeding.

Philippe will post soon a new version of the patch: 1.0.4b.
I fixed the mysterious problem on patch installation troubles, so now you are not more required to do a fresh install from zero. No virus, just a corrupted .ini file that made the game unplayable.

So I'm confident this patch 1.0.4b, once test by you volunteers, can become public.

I will post the patch news soon.
