Version number not updating OK

Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:32 pm

Just a check. I installed the game andthen the patch but the main screen still shows 1.01. Yes I have checked the .exe and it says 1.0.5.5. Is anything therefore incomplete in the patch.

I believe the WW1.ini has not been overwritten. Admin priviledges missing? File owned (installed by) another user?

Now another error

Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:57 pm

I ran the patch as administator and win.ini changed to a Jan date OK. Now I am getting a Serial Key invalid error!!?. So I uninstalled and reinstalled from the disk and it ran ok with the number from the book back and then updated again - same error.

I looked in the config program and it is OK - so what can I try now?

Be sure the serial key is typed both in WW1.ini and in Serial.ini files.

Found it as well

Just went through that in full debug mode i.e. I looked at what was there after an install when it worked and not. After having to unprotect it so I could edit the file.
(I hate Vista security!) I got it to work OK

Thanks for the quick reply. You got back while I was doing the install and file checking! :)

Was just a thought though. Could not the installer take the old win.ini file data in and copy back out things like the serial. Or at least a file for newbies like me :-) with a name like "THINGSTOCHECK.TXT" (We have them in my system to remind ME) Just to cut down stuff like ths

Indeed I added the Serial.ini file in version 1.04 for this reason. It's not overwritten by patches, and the WW1.exe file searchs the serial in both WW1.ini and Serial.ini file. ;)
The problem is when upgrade the box version 1.01 to 1.04 or higher, so in theory upon the first patching... all further patchings should not create problems.
