Demo won't come back from screen saver

Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:51 am

Just downloaded the demo, patched it up to 1.05f, started up, all well, then went away from the computer for a while. When I returned, and cleared away the screen saver, the game wouldn't reload. Instead of WWI on the Task Manager, I have an item called 30.06 fps (1280 x 1024 x32) Not Responding. I can't switch to it but I can end it and it ends, under protest. I'm running XP.

Nothing can be done for this issue, sorry. The directX objects are "lost" whenever the PC goes in stand-by or the screensaver starts. :(

That's a little annoying. AACW doesn't work this way. Most other games that I have don't work this way. Now, if I get up from the computer to go to the bathroom, I have to save and quit the game? And then sit through the start-up process again after I come back? I imagine that you could find a way to fix this if you put your mind to it. I can't be the only person who finds this a trial.

Thanks, Hattrick. You know, I am aware that I can turn the screen saver off, but I want to have it on because I have little kids who would otherwise come and mess with my computer, doing all sorts of harm (I know this because before I set the screen saver to come on quickly, with password protection to resume, they did screw things up a couple of times). I don't really want to have to change these settings in order to play the game. This doesn't give me a problem with any other AGEOD game, only this one. I wonder why? If this is WAD, maybe I just can't play this game. That would be a shame.

It's a problem related to the core graphic engine of WW1. I tried to find a work-around several times in the past, unsuccessfully however. :(
