Reproducible CTD under 1.05g

Thu Jan 22, 2009 2:55 pm

Calvinus,

I fired up a new game under 1.05 g last night, playing turn by turn and army by army activation. Got a reproducible CTD in the Early Aug 14 turn. After making my first moves and combat resolution with the German I, II and III armies, coordinated together, I go to save the game after getting combat results. Every time I go to save, the game CTDs during the saving process. The CTD occurs when the game screen goes away and the WWI wallpaper comes up, and the progress bar on the save starts to move then crashes every time.

Last successful save game will be mailed to you. It comes from just prior to execution of the turn moves.

Interesting. I reloaded the game, didnt save after executing my first moves with the German I, II, and III Armies, then activated a Turkish Army, moved it and attempted to save the game. This time the game saved correctly without CTD.

I wonder if the CTD bug has some relationship to armies being successfully coordinated?

I think the CTD can be related to the fact your turn is not finished yet, but your idea about coordination must be investigated. I'll try to reproduce the issue later.

My antivirus stuff is pretty standard, just McAfee, nothing else.

I have really never had the CTD problems with WWI before, like others have had. That is why this really took me by surprise.

If for some reason the save game I was writing over had been corrupted or had a corrupted file, would that be affecting the situation? I tend to alternate my saves in case a file gets corrupted, usually have WWIA and WWIB save files and alternate saving.

Let me give you the savegame I was trying to save over, perhaps it was the problem?

In the background, I am running Itunes, with most of the soundtrack from the game along with some other selections of military marches and music. Other than that, only other applications I have open are internet explorer and microsoft outlook.

Only other comments are that the events I have played are Bolo Pasha, Bruchmuller, Successful Jihad, and Technology.

Hope this helps, if still no solution is found, I guess it is a mystery.

I use also a lot of applications "behind" the game, so no worry. The only problems may come from antivirus programs.

Which was the zoom level of the map? I found a veeery rare crash in map zoom, that I fixed yesterday night (it was the same of Grand Offensives, Breakthroughs and Counter-Attacks/Retreat planning windows). So just an idea...

Standard map level zoom which you get when you load the game.

Calvinus, here is my savegame from yesterday evening after i had the crash. You will notice that the .map file has not been saved. It has a earlier date. After loading the game today i notice that my armies in Belgium are isolated. Luckily i have a savegame off the Diplomacy phase so i will go back and report later if this crash happens again.

Edit: I have the same crash again when i save the game after the Breakthrough sub-phase and after the reaction move of the ai (Serbian Army). Saving in the next August 1914 Redeployment phase is not a problem.

Did exactly as you described: activated the I army, moved, entered the breakthrough sub-phase, started reaction of I Serbian army, finished reaction, saved... zero crash!

Calvinus here is the Early August savegame. I did the following: I activate the first army and make a cooperation move with the second and third army. First army i move to Lovain, second army to Liege and third army to Namur. After the Namur battle i move the first army to Bruxelles. Then after the battle at Bruxelles and the enemy reaction i hit F5 to save the game. And then it crashes. With Great Invasions i had sometimes the same problem when saving a game.

Based on what Frank is saying here, I am really wondering if the ctd might have something to do with successfully coordinating armies, as he and I both had successfully coordinated German I, II, and III armies prior to our CTD.

This is what i think too. Luckily you can save in the next phase without a crash so this is not so a big problem. ;)

The crash on save is fixed with 1.05H, downloadable.
