Hung Game - 05f

Sat Jan 17, 2009 5:09 pm

I seem to be getting a fair number of problems with 5f. Mainly hung games. I've been saving a game pretty much after every phase and normally when I get a hang up, the reload of a save allows me to proceed.

However, I now have one where I can make no progress. It is Oct, 1915 the reinforcement phase starts OK but then I get the box Politics AI working. It hangs here and I can get no further.

I do have the appropriate save game and I will attempt to upload it. I'm not terribly confident - I'm hopeless with these new-fangled computer thingies.

I tested your savegame (WEGO mode, "Give full time to AI" option disabled), and I successfully managed to see the AI finishing her plannings (the "Political AI is working..." black message vanished and I was able to end the turn)...
Do you wish I test using another play mode (strictly turn based, or "give AI full time" option enabled)? :)

By the way... be very careful with your V British army! The turks successfully isolted the army, and you risk to loose her, and the whole Egypt!

Mmmhhh... perhaps you are suffering the same problems of Syagrius... his BitDefender antivirus caused severe slow-downs (and crashes). Once uninstalled, the game started running fine! :)

Thanks - no matter what settings I try I simply cannot get the game to move. No idea how you managed it. Too many odd things have happened in this game - think I may have to abandon it.

For eg you mention the British V Army. There is a story - in the previous turn, there was a battle with a small Turkish force at El Arish. It turned into a slaughter with the wadis running red with Turkish blood. I was a bit surprised when the result came up to see that it was a Turkish victory  However, when I next got a look at the map, there was not a single Turkish unit to be seen anywhere in an adjacent region or, indeed, the area. Lord knows from where came the units to take back the El Arish after I had foolishly forgotten to leave a corps there whilst I strolled into Jerusalem.

I did nothing particular. I just waited the AI finishes her job and then scheduled my moves, as usual. So I think you are having some antivirus problem like those reported by Syagrius, that look very similar to what you described.

Eventually I did get the game to move. I gave it a limit of ten reloads - it did it on the seventh :) . I'll try in future disabling the a/v.

Apart from the phantom Turkish units, there is another current issue. I cannot move my African units from Brit Africa to the Hun in Kamerun. The game tells me there is no movement path although there is a thick line connecting the two regions.

I will check the "adjacency" infos on African map. Probably there's something wrong there. Otherwise there are neutral areas in the middle? Have you tried using the Naval Transport movement mode? ;)

No neutral areas - these are two adjacent land areas. No - haven't tried Naval.

BTW are you supposed to work so early on a Sunday :) .

Hanging problems now for me are quite rare, had one last night in 1917, politics was hanging, however I was playing with music on again, will retry my game with music off.
