Game Freeze

Sat Dec 20, 2008 7:38 am

I'm still getting numerous game freezes, even with the latest patch.

I have attached a save game.
On this occasion it happens when music starts for some reason. I have music turned off.

The music always leads to a short freeze on my machine, but then it goes on and no real freeze happens, just a short break...like a CD player changing discs but shorter. :)

Yes, it's exactly like wht written by Kaiser1918. Irrklang sound lib is very good but has only this small "problem"... ;)

With game freeze I meant an windows error message comes up and my computer locks up as well. Not quite the same as a CTD but I have to turn off my computer and start it up again.

Thinking could it be playing old save games with the new patches? Incompatible?

After playing all evening with the extra updated new patch, I had 2 crashes with the error message. I was able to reload a save and advance past them. Then I finally have my first ever Air combat, and the AI won't engage its force, I can't advance and the AI sits there trying to make a choice.
This happens every air combat. Here is the savegame. I just can't complete a game, something always happens. :( and with calvinus out,I guess I will have to shelf this game. I can't waste anymore time. This isn't fun anymore.
Thanks

A strictly-turn-based mode bug. :( Based on where you saved that game of yours you could load it up and disable the advanced mode, and progress.

This isn't a strictly turn based mode bug, I am playing WEGO mode, and there aren't any advanced modes to disable.
Thanks anyway. :)

Air Combat is buggy for what it seems. We should have to wait until Calvinus comes back from Holidays.

Is there any hope that the freeze when the background music song changes will be taken care of?

The music adds a nice atmosphere and all, but the freezing caused by it is too jarring for my tastes. As it is, I will just leave it off (but I'm not happy about it! :neener: )

Bill, no that problem is part of the Irrklang library used. So, if you do not like it, shut the music off (as I did after the tenth time of Prussia's Glory, which is a nice march but gets old after a while).

I did and someone else too mentioned music starting or changing.
After listening to the games sound files i worked out this is an event starting.
So my guess this is causing at least one of the crashes.

Fixes will have to wait till the new year now, so back to the BETA testing for me! :)

I'll come back soon on your crashes.

In the meanwhile, make sure you downloaded and applied the very latest update of 1.05c, published the evening of 20th December.

If you feel the cause of crashes are Air Combats, simply do not plan any air missions... this will avoid Air duels.

The AI air combats has a problem when Bombers are involved... I fixed the bug, but I can't produce a new patch before the end of xmas vacations, sorry. :(

So, waiting the end of vacations, please do not plan air missions (recon, bombings, air supports)... so you will have no air duels...

Sorry...
Calvinus.

I tested your savegame, no freeze no crash.
But I was forced to try the game with no sounds, having only 512MB RAM.

It seems you are having multi-thread problems when loading a new music segment. What you can do is to:
- enable the "Load all sound at start" option (WW1 Configurator);
- disable the "Play sounds in streaming mode" option (WW1 Configurator).

This should remove the freeze upon music load, I guess...
Also, no multi-thread freeze should occurr. :bonk:
But make sure you have enough RAM. ;)

I have also a short freeze with the music when a new song is to begin.

This has been discussed elsewhere. If I recall, it's the library used and, without thousands spent on a new MP3 library, probably a nuisance we'll have to live with if music is turns on.

For the Sound Engine, the game currently uses a couple of DLL libraries. This could be the reason, but I cannot assure 100%. We are waiting for the static libraries since 20+ days... :p leure: These static libraries should improve the game sounds, but again I cannot assure 100%.
