Patches really installed?

Tue Nov 25, 2008 9:33 am

Hi,

I see several posts from people that makes me suspect the patches are not properly installed on PCs running with Vista.

I believe the cause is that these guys are not logged as Administrator, so the patch installer probably is not able to overwrite the WW1.exe file.

If you want to check quickly if the patch has been successfully installed, you can do so:

  1. Go to the game folder and
  2. right click on the WW1.exe file icon, a popup menu will appear
  3. select the Properties option, a window will appear
  4. select the Version tab and check the 'File Version', that should be as follows: 1.0.4.1 for 1.04a, 1.0.4.2 for 1.04b, or 1.0.4.3 for 1.04c

I'm going to configure the patch installer in order to force the overwrite of the files, whatever is the current user logged in! Investigations ongoing... :sherlock:

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Well... it seems the current version of Inno Setup we are currently using is not 100% Vista compliant, mainly for the Administrator priviledges! :grr:

I'm going to download the newest version, hoping it will finally work!

Well, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Inno Setup and I finally found something about Vista Administrator priviledges:

On Windows Vista and later:

This directive affects whether elevated rights are requested (via a User Account Control dialog) when the installation is started.

When set to admin (the default) or poweruser, Setup will always run with administrative privileges. If Setup was started by an unprivileged user, Windows will ask for the password to an account that has administrative privileges, and Setup will then run under that account.

When set to none, Setup will only run with administrative privileges if it was started by a member of the Administrators group. Do not use this setting unless you are sure your installation will run successfully on unprivileged accounts.

Next patches (1.0.4d and following ones) will use the new features... ;)

And you are logged in as Administrator, right?

Same for me

As administrator, UAC off
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

I have no idea if I am logged in as Administrator, but I disabled the UAC.

That is correct. Once disabled I was able to load completely 1.04c.

In Control panel, User accounts (using the classic view) you can see if you are the administrator.

I guess that if you are using your home computer and you are the only user, you are the administrator
