'What's mine is mine...'

Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:02 pm

Hello chaps,

I have a question concerning naval mines and their effect on fleets.
Quick run down before hand; I'm playing a fourplayer Grand campaign as the Austro-Hungarians. Very early on Italy joined the CP under my control.

On my last turn (Jan-Feb 1916) I decided to move my two fleets, one Italian, one AH into the two major Italian ports of Genova and La Spezia, to do this I moved them through the Ligurian Sea and into their respective coastal zones which I have mined. The AH fleet moving into Genova took a mine attack in the Ligurian Sea damaging one of my BB squadrons.

Unless I'm completly mistaken, I wasn't aware that ocean area's can be mined? The Liguarian is under Italian (therefore my) control and even if ocean area's can be mined, would they really do damage to an allied fleet?
Obviously a mine doesn't have a sense of whose an ally and whose not, but surely the Italians would have mentioned/given coordinates of said mine field to the Austrians. (besides it says in the manual that they attack only enemy fleets)

Any enlightenment on this subject would be most helpful. Cheers :)

Hello, naval mines strike at a range of 3 naval areas (0-3 coastal seas, 1 open sea). So I guess you've been hit by a French naval mine near Toulon... :neener:

Ah, so that must be it! The rotten devils!
Thanks for clearing that up :)

Still, Russia just capitulated and Romania have just joined the war on the side of Russia...

Let's see how they cope with the battle hardened III, V, VI and VII armies :D

Let's say Rumania entered the war on the side of the second Entente player, that's something a bit different from Russia. ;)
