SPOILER ALERT: 1914 Scenario - Potential issue with mandatory French attacks

Thu Aug 19, 2010 6:12 pm

Noticed that playing this scenario (now many times to master the concepts of movement warfare before moving on to the more complex trench-based stuff) that it is possible for the French armies in Alsace-Lorraine (I, II & III) simply to move from their current regions into the adjoining French regions - in essence the army detachments can simply swap positions with their respective HQs to satisfy the mandatory attack requirement.

This makes the opening of the scenario much easier for the French, since they can avoid heavy attack losses in this area, especially in the mountainous Vosges sector.

Does this seem right?

In theory the mandatory attack is fulfilled if you plan a move towards enemy territory, not friendly areas...

Very strange, I'll investigate! ;)

Playing the 1914 scenario I noticed the same. Also noticed that you do not need to plan for all the HQs - I was allowed to move to next turn with only movement plotted for several of them.

My understanding is that you have the option to not attack into enemy territory but if you do not then there will be penalties in the form of a loss of NW.
