Mandatory attack but French units locked

Sun Dec 07, 2008 1:06 am

Playing the French in a four player game. Early August turn - military phase. Several French armies and detachments show a mandatory attack but are locked, so I am stuck.
Saved game attached. Thanks.

Sounds like McCarther's issue in Korea :)

I loaded your saved file and I see what you mean. I did some fiddling with stuff but nothing worked.

Mandatory attacks with immobilized units-- that's the story of this game so far.

Ok, I realised what happened.

You originally selected the French Plan XVI (that requires mandatory attack in Early August), then played the "Historical War-Plan" event, so reverting to French Plan XVII (mandatory attack in August).

Herewith enclosed you can find your zipped savegame, corrected.

I will fix the code asap.

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Fixed on the code too. Bug in "Historical War Plan" event, extremely difficult... Next patch.

Thanks for fixing my saved game and finding the bug.
I don't recall choosing any events in my game so far - I just chose the original War Plan.

I'm almost sure you did so, otherwise what was inside the savegame is very strange... I found the effect rules of both XVI and XVII warplans! :D

Isn't XVI the plan which you can cancel at the last moment? An event window pops up asking if you want to go on with it... he could had chosen to cancel that.

Probably he had the event trigger by timeout because he did not react fast enough, e.g. due to some other popup windows. I think I had several events fire that way because of other notifications 'blocking' my sight...

Sounds like a few others are also stuck on Mandatory attacks, so there is likely another issues causing it.

The number of combinations (5 warplans x 4 nations x N options + mandatory events + random events + secret events etc. etc. etc.) is SO BIG that we will finish testing all them in 2010 :D

The same bug in "Historical war plan" event has been fixed also in "Abandonement of XVI Plan". ;)

The other report of being stuck in a mandatory attack comes from a game played in advanced mode. With army-by-army activation, the whole thing becomes much more complex. Can still be a bug of course, but lets wait until Calvinus can have a look on the saved game of that.

In this particular case, I am pretty sure it was the "revert back to historical plan" event choice. And I think the default of it is to NOT revert, but I am not sure so can be wrong.

You might want to consider the chance that calvinus has a sense of humor... ;)

I think this issue is valid here to add to the thread.

abulbulian wrote:I've had this issue to. I can tell you Exactly what it is now. One of the mandatory move/attack armies (red flag) you *touched* in the UI and the red flag display disappeared some how.

To solve this I went back through the armies I believed started with a mandatory move/attack and moved them temporarily until the end turn was click-able.

*** The bug exists and the fix should be easy. ALSO, the game should take you to the first unit on the map that does not have the mandatory condition met when you try and end the turn. This should be the case until all are correct. Otherwise, you have no way to know, since the red flag display currently can go away without the condition for the army changing. As well, nobody wants to scan the whole map to try and determine what army needs to be moved. It's a big map!

Hello all, I am Bruno de Scorraille, the co-Game Designer orginal WW1 game, and former Azure Wish Editor...
I go start answer questions, about the game, rules and system
I'm the "expert" in the WW1 game rules ... as the PC game is very similar to the original WW1 game.
For the WAR PLANS ...
The point is, some WP you can select can have a "pre turn", before the August turn.
At pre-turn ONLY some Armies can move and attack, and other Arimes are locked...
In Historical WP, only GER has a pre-turn in West with Armies I, II, III to invade Belgium and run to North France.
and also RUS has a pre-tuen to attack Eastern Prussia.

If you choose other WP... Go read carefuly IF you will benefit a pre-turn.
France has one WP with such pre-turn, and it's Plan XVI, very similar to Plan XVII? except...
The French benefits a pre-turn to attack hard Alsace-Lorraine. It can be good if GER go attack in East (if she did choose Moltke WP ).

I f you have any questions about "rules", just go ask...
For Informatic problem, Calvinus is better than me, and he is over stomed by work for now ...
