Transports? How to?

Wed Nov 17, 2010 6:21 pm

Hi
For the life of me, I cannot understand or work out how I can transfer my UK High Command HQ unit, attached with fighters, bombers and reserves, over to France? Likewise, I cannot work out how to do the same with the US HQ over in the States?

I click on transport icon with the ship at port, both in Portsmouth and in America, then I drag the HQ unit, stationed in the same region, to a place in France but I get the red txt telling me that it is not allowed. What gives? I went through the manual and I cannot make head not tail of how to do this?

Seems really I am at a loss here, and its annoying me.

Any help would really be appreciated, thanks.

Here's hoping somebody comes by with an answer, am having the same problems with the US Army and a corps in Canada.

This is NOT a weather problem nor is it due to exceeding naval transport capabilities.

It also seems like drag-and-drop movement is problematic once one loses sight of the unit being moved when scrolling to the desired new location; in these cases the Canada and United States off-map boxes in the lower right corner of the display to Britain on the main map in the upper left corner.

Getting the British GHQ unit to France has never been an issue for me but then I zoom all the way out so that the movement path can be traced without scrolling the map. Also, always sortie the Channel Fleet as escorts but I don't know if that makes a difference.

I cannot even do that! I have a HQ Unit, in the portsmouth area. It contains two plane units, and two reserve corps. I click on the fleet stationed in the same region and select transport. I then drag the HQ unit over to calais (it has a port), but I get the red text telling me it is not allowed. Same goes with the US command HQ and Corps. It is starting to annoy me.

Help pls!!

Maybe you have already done this, but have you tried clicking on the transport button with the HQ in question selected(to set movement mode) before dragging it over to the destination?

No? This is what I do. I select the fleet in the region, then click the transport icon. Then I click on the HQ in the same region as the fleet (i.e a port region). Then I drag the HQ over to Calais or another French region with a port. I get 'movement not allowed' red message. I just re-read the manual and it is not very clear regarding this movement. My naval movement is 9 on the top bar. I am at a loss with this and cannot figure it out!

Help? Anyone?

Which HQ? Is it too far from Calais? Is Calais highlighted by the pulsating yellow map filter? What about weather conditions?

I was doing it wrong. I was forgetting to click on the sea transport icon in the HQ unit - instead I was just clicking on the transport icon for the fleet. Sussed it! Although how do I drag and drop the US Army over to France without it loosing focus?

Thank you.

My naval movement issues have nothing to do with the weather, just the inability to get US and Canadian units from North America to Britain. Somewhere along the line the game drops the units before the cursor can be placed over the destination.

The Channel crossing has never been an issue for me. Then again I've always transported empty HQs.

Other sea moves, especially from the US, and in one instance from India to South Africa, are more troublesome, but I find that one can plot sea region by sea region, just as on land, if the auto-route-finding fails.

So, I'd recommend transporting empty HQs and single Corps separately, moving sea region to sea region if necessary.

Good Luck!
