Koenigsburg and my lack of capturing it.

Tue Jul 21, 2009 6:47 pm

Hello,

I'm rather new to this game and so far I have stuck to the Tannenburg Scenario through sheer beligerence and my expressed belief that I will take Koenigsburg as the Russians. So far I have managed to achieve seven draws and one loss (The one time I actually thought I was going to make it!)
Now I appreciate that there is obviously a large amount of trial and error involved but I would be most grateful for any advice from players who can polish off the German VIII army in a matter of minutes. If thats even possible. Cheers!

Edit: I realise I'm being rather vague and almost sounding like I want someone to do it for me...that wasn't my intention. Now If someone could just explain to me in the simplest of terms. How Do I delete this bloody thing!

I am not an expert with that scenario, but I've played it a few times. One thing I do know is that the German 8th Army is not strong enough to fight both Russian Armies at the same time at the start. So, the trick is to overwhelm the 8th before it gets replacements and reinforcements. Try keeping one Russian army together, but split the other (and set this to intercept) and create the largest reserve in the HQ as possible. Use some cav to race ahead to start a combat. With bothe main armies headed for Koernigsburg it seems like you would be able to a double engagement with the 8th and beat it badly.

Then you simply move your one arty unit into Koenigsbug, shell, assault and repeat. With a little luck, you got it made. Good luck. :)

Salutations, sir. I thankyou for your reply. I must apologise about my rather lackluster delay in responding. This was due to various reasons involving a dieing old computer, annoyance at repeated gaming crashes and a certain despair similar to that of Samsonov at the repeated annhilation of my Russian forces. :(
Nevertheless after recently watching 'The Great War' narrated by Sir Micheal Redgrave and having a shiney new computer! I decided to reinstall and have another crack. After three attempts I managed to take Koenigsburg! (Well it was more like five but the other two crashed rather inconveiniantly after succesful battles and so therefore do not count :) )

Needless to say my victories were horrifically costly in manpower, but that appears to be the theme for the Ruskies, poor bastards.

Still, many thanks for your reply and although I hadn't actually read this before my success I am grateful for the mentioning of 'Interceptions'. I shall be using this in future games.

Tally ho!

Congratulations on the win-victory is sweet.

This was a blast from the past-summer of '09. Beware of patching as there has been some changes in the game-actually a new game came out this spring. :)

IIRC, I always moved the closest naval artillery to eventually join up with an army for extra punch (and no pie). It's still a race to get in there fast and take it no matter the cost.

Is this the Gold version that you speak of? Or is there some new and wonderous creation that has passed me by?

I wasn't aware that this art. was available in the scenario? If so :bonk: Thats another vital piece of equipment which my chaps have had to suffer for a lack of. Still, in the campaign I utilised it (eventually) I left it sat in its original position for quite some considerable time as I wasn't sure what the German Baltic fleet was going to do and whether my artillery would even fire at them if they did approach, as it stands...they've done nothing, so I moved them up in support.

The Gold version is the biggest change. There are also a few patches that updates the old game in some areas. Many areas have been modified.

If you are enjoying the game then I would suggest you get the Gold version. There should be a change log posted in the forum-it would be lengthy.
