Grand Offensive Timing

Sat Jun 26, 2010 4:33 pm

I can see no benefit in pre-booking a Grand offensive. Accordingly I plan and launch them in the same turn.

This doesnt seem historic or realistic, indeed it undermines what I believe is a well concieved and structured part of the game. But perhaps I am wrong?

Is there any sort of benefit for pre-booking a Grand offensive at all? I have looked through the rules I am not able to find information pertaining to this.

Thanks

Let's say this partlially respect the original boardgame design. In LGG game, in fact, I recall you plan (secretly) the GO during the Interphase of Nov.-Dec. turn of the year before... In WW1 you can plan it also later.

Why was the decision made not to follow the board game on this occassion? I am guessing there was an issue with it?

Perhaps a comprimise of adding some sort of bonus for planning them in advance and some sort of negative for not planning them with reasonable time to spare.

Because, with out that Grand Offensives is just another attack with a attack/ defence choice selection that you have to succeed at, it seems to be a pointless feature, the board game rule, whilst overly rigid does seem pretty cool.

Perhaps you have to plan it in the interphase but if you change the date/targe you lose -1 NW but you always need to plan them 2 or so turns in advance.

Good suggestions indeed, I will consider them for a possible change.

Thanks,

If the AI can cope with it, then by all means, use the boardgame's limitation.
