I was able during combat phase to move them from the reserves to the rear, but dould not get them out of the rear...
Are they used somehow differently than ground forces?

During land combats the only place is in the rear (they can be used in trench warfare combined with the Tactical Aerial Support combat doctrine).

During air duels they are instead used in the sky...
