MAJOR NW issues

Mon Dec 08, 2008 2:55 am

Ok, this really is a big disappointment. I know hard work was done to fix some issues, but this game is still way too buggy to play.

- issue #1: for some reason after the 1914 Nov-Dec interphase, my NW for both Germany and A-H dropped to 17 due to some event? WTF they both jusy had NW 30+, Germany's was like 42 before the interphase. I looked at all the pop-ups and the additions and loses for NW were still positive for the turn?

- issed #2: I was sieging myself in Metz? and no units showed in the seige? This has been reported before I'm sure.

Here's the saved game after the interphase. I'll attach the phase before the interphase occurred as well so you can see.

This really blows, as I feel I just pissed 8+ hrs playing this game to get slapped in the face with this bug and now I can't continue since the game is over for Germany and A-H in 1914. LOL, I was doing very well too... :(

Here's the turn just before my NW hit the toilet for Germany and A-H for no reason???

Are you playing 1.04g? I had the same thing happen, and this bug was supposed to have been fixed.

Yes I am!!! I was just starting to get happy that I didn't get a CTD during the interphase. Then I saw the pop-up saying something about German NW going to 17 and then it was the same pop-up telling me A-H is at 17 too? WTF, just out of no where. Before that I was getting more bonuses due to captured cities then negatives. NO WAY the German NW could have gone from 40+ to 17, in fact it should have gone UP!

I'm demoralized totally after this attempt to play and more bugs. Just a beaten man...

Oh and another thing, the economy icon on top bar (economic points) makes absolutely no sense to me? It shows 20 I know this is the difference between
treasury forecast and budget balance, but is this the BEST thing to show? Explain the relevance of why it showing this number? Wouldn't some other amount make more send like how much I have to spend or something like that simple?

SOMEBODY??? ANYBODY??? PLEASE??????

This problem has been flagged in the other part of the forum. Calvinus said he'd addressed it in the "next" patch, which should have been 1.0.4g. I had something similar happen where a bunch of nations all lost 20 NW for no reason.

Sorry to say, but I have at least part of the same thing playing with the G Patch. A/H hit 12 NW in the first interphase. Things were actually going well for them-I see no reason for this to have occurred.

Strange.... I began 2 games with 104G (CP and Entente) and I didn't have this kind of problem...

I started 1915 with 37 and 40 NW for CP side and 35 - 31 for Entente...

BUT

I have many more CTD with 104G that with previous patch...

I try to do my best to avoid them and keep enjoy to play...

A big THX to our Ageod guys who make all necessary efforts to make a big success with this game!

Wow, is this what we gamers have been reduced to after a purchase these days...

Unless this guy got the game for free, I think we need set our expectation a bit higher for game designers. Personally, I'm a bit ticked ATM because I've put many hours into the game and have very little to show for it. I haven't been able to get past the 1914 interphase without a CTD (pre latest patch) and now the NW bug (current release). Yes, I appreciate all the hard work from all the developers to fix the bugs. But, isn't that like thanking a car dealer to fix the car he sold you in which the brakes didn't work? I happy to thank AGEod for quick patches, but seems kind of unintuitive that I would have to thank them to fix issues that make the game unplayable from day1? What happen to the days when you buy game software and it worked 'out-of-the-box'? Not that I don't mind the input to help a game, but when did I sign up to be a beta tester? That's fine, throw me a buck or two, or free game and I gladly beta test.

This may all sound like harsh words and it's mostly likely out of frustration. However, I was hoping to have a weekend to enjoy the game and I got blind-sided again with the game bugs. My free time is precious and it's hard to rationalize playing a game that keeps leaving bad taste in my mouth.

:(

PS: please take nothing away from what Calvinus is doing (great work), but he needs more help. AGEod needs to have a dedicated team of QC/QA people to test products, thus avoid this situation in the future.

I dont think that I'm "reduced" to any kind of reflection...

I know the job the team is doing for us and I just wait for better results without being nervous. Nothing can be perfect at first time, and almost in informatic stuff.

I just try to notify the bugs , errors and wrong historical features. After that, I let them time to patch. Crying or being angry 'll not help the team to make the job.

They make what they can with what they have and their aim is to satisfy their costumers, everyone can see that clearly since the launch of this game.... One day is 24hrs and u cant add more...

Be polite, patient, clear in your report and positive. All take time to be as perfect as possible.

This is indeed looks like a bug, altough it would be interesting to know stuff like your civilian production level. Parliament level, what was your NW at the start of the Interphase etc. Or if the AI played an NW-decreasing event on you. Will check your save when I get home.

One of the normal things which could cause this, is if various NW resolutions like lost cities/forts/etc. push your NW to 20 or below, and then it enters the instability zone where strike checks are being made, which can further decrease it.

So yes, this can be a bug, but there are also several ways for it to NOT be a bug. :)

I did include the resulting of the interphase and the turn just before. You can clearly get all your information from those two saved files.

And no, I didn't lost anything major to cause Germany to go from 40 NW to 18. In fact I should have gained as I took some French forts and took Warsaw. The game has pop-ups which mention NW changes in #'s. These were all small, but yet still should have added German NW rather that reduce it 28 POINTS!

Pascal...

As for your comments, keep them to another post please. I'm trying to discuss the bug I had on the interphase, not your confused ideals on buying products. I'd love to sell you some swamp land in Florida and tell you if you look really hard you might find oil. I know you wouldn't 'whine' about it if no oil was ever found.

Unlike you, myself and the rest of the sane world has some expectations when we buy products as consumers.

I can still be optimistic about the future of the game, yet report and discuss my frustration with the current state of the game and the bugs I'm seeing? Or is this just to difficult a concept for you to understand???

I agree 100% with abulbulian. I am sick and tired of seeing Ageod congratulated for working so hard to fix all the problems, when they never should have released the game in the state it is in today, let alone a month ago.

At this point I'm just sorry it's too late to get a refund. If I knew it would be taking this long to get a game that works as it should (never mind a manual), I would have taken them up on their offer weeks ago.

The reason why I think my feeling are a bit more sensitive around this game is the fact I've been starved for a good strategic WWI turn based game for a while. Gun's of August was ok, but it didn't keep my interest for long.

So I was very excited, somewhat teased, by the Matrix website in their description of this WWI AGEod product. Like most games, I impulse bought it and was already scheduling my time to play the game with my personal schedule :neener:

Now it's a month or so later and I'm just frustrated I haven't even been able to play one game past 1914.

I think it's unanimous on the following items:

- this WWI game *could* be one of the best ever
- the AGEod support and *1* developer, Calvinus, has been exceptional to try and fix all the bugs timely. The key is *1*, he is way under staffed to pull off these types of miracles given the state the game was in at release time.
- we all, to some extent, want to help make the game better. Normally what that means is UI improvements and minor bugs, however, in this case it's just getting the game to work without CTD or game ending logic bugs.

I do want to stay positive and will continue to hold the belief that this game will get all the 'kinks' worked out, but it's going to take longer than we all hoped.

But my experience with the game may be different with others, although I find it hard to see how others didn't face the NW issues I did. Maybe it doesn't happen to the allies?

We just do not have the resources to do more or faster... :(

Fine. Your resources are limited. We all understand that. But that is no excuse for releasing an unfinished, undocumented game.

It's clear now that even with the stability issues (mostly) resolved, there are problems with the logic, interface, etc. that normal testing would have revealed. That leads to one of two conclusions:

a)The game was never tested in the first place or
b)The game was tested, you knew about the problems, but decided to release it anyway because you either needed the money, were committed to a Nov. 11 release date no matter what, or both.

Either one is inexcusable, no matter how limited your resources.

Never again will I buy an Ageod product at release.

Everytime I feel I am ready to dive in and purchase WWI a thread like this pops up. It looks like this is the kind of game i would really enjoy but I'm not taking any more chances. It looks like the small developers use the public for beta testers. I don't know.

gbs...I don't think it has anything to do with small developers because I've bought and waited for stable version of many games from large developers too. In fact, with the large developers, I've had times when things were never satisfatorily fixed.

I think you are probably right that you will really enjoy the game, but it is very understandable should you take a wait and see attitude. But I'd suggest checking back for community feedback on the current state (not release state) on a regular basis as they have been fixing things as quickly as they can.

Life isn't black and white as much as some people always want to make it seem that way.

Perhaps (I'd say highly likely) there is something in between the two options you've thrown out?

Don't get me wrong. I understand your frustration. I'm just open to the idea that AGEOD made an HONEST mistake in releasing WWI when they did and weren't being incompentent, devious or dishonest.

I'll tell you what...I'll buy your copy as a Christmas present for my brother. I was already planning on doing that anyway so it's no skin off my back. That way you can quietly wait and watch and commit your money only when the game seems ready for you.

If you really want to get the game off your hands, let me know and I'll get with AGEOD to figure out the serial number logistics to get yours cancelled and get me a new one.

Ok I finally had the chance to check the savegame. The reason for the NW loss is that war exhaustion triggered for your countries! You can see that in one of the pop-up windows you get. Now, to have War Exhaustion trigger such a collapse of NW is normal.

What is not normal, is to have that happen at the end of 1914, this is the first time I see this! :O

I am sure Calvinus will check your savegame for the reason, in the meantime if you can remember what extraordinary (if any) you did, it would be very useful.

Did nothing unusual for any sort of war exhausting to occur. What are the parameters for it to occur? LOL, hard to believe after 5 months of fighting Germany and A-H would be exhausted? Especially since they were doing well and the fighting was historical. Like I said (and you saw in the saved game file) Germany's NW was 40 before the interphase hit.

Only thing odd was the *ghost* siege that happen in Metz with no armies showing and Germany vs Germany? But that only start a turn before the interphase, so I don't know what to say.

Who's an expert on the board game and can shed some light as to when 'War Exhausting' would be checked?

The Metz siege bug is noted and scheduled for fix. The war weariness effects in 1914 are surely a bugged check, that I'm testing right now.
