Thanks and thanks again for your support.

I'm working very hard even now after the patch release.

I have asked to Philippe the permission to open a thread for the beta testing of new patches (1.0.4a towards 1.0.5). Stay tuned! ;)

Observations with 1.0.4: non-ending sub-phase, most units locked up

All the rather rough introduction of WW1 nonewithstanding: Nice game!
The 7/24 online support is very ... dedicated.

Concerning V 1.0.4:

I'm playing recommended setting, 2 players grand campain, Entente side early Aug. 14, what seems to be 2nd military phase and

AI calculations seem to be finished, but I can't move on to the next phase not knowing what I'm expected to do.

Strangely nearly all land units on both sides are locked, besides: Serbs, German 1.-3. Army, British island garrisons and colonials.

Warplans:
Germany: offensive in the west w/o Belgium.
Habsburg: free variant
France: cautious variant
Russia: offensive against Habsburg (Rasputin?!)

Last phase a big Jutland naval battle took place after Germany played fleet sortie event card and GB entered the war.

Oh and before I played an delay enemy reinforcement card.

I could pm a saved game to Calvinus or PT.

Regards

According the above mentioned problem Calvinus looked at my saved games and replied:

"Is it a match that you started (1.0.3) in "Strictly turn-based" mode and then (1.0.4) you continued in "WEGO" mode???

If so, this is the reason why you are blocked... "

Perhaps that helps other players.

Regards

P.S.: Nevertheless my corrupted (!?) save game was started with the brand new V 1.0.4, without ever using strictly turn-based mode.

P.P.S: Lucas advice: "So it's very very strange! :-o

.SAV file :
[ENGINE] section

I found:
NextTurnRequested=1

that should be: NextTurnRequested=0

it means the other player (AI) has played BEFORE you (so strictly turn-based)?

Anyway, for the future if you have similar problems you know how to fix:

[ENGINE]
...
NextTurnRequested=0

"

I run the patch perfectly under my Win Vista, logged as Administrator.

It appears to be more complicated than that. I d/l the patch and everything went fine except that I am still showing version 1.03. However, playing the 2 player GC I seem to have the features of 1.04, ie flashing next battle button, ask audience button in diplomacy and I think that the rail conversion button works as per 1.04.

The patch has cleared up all crash bugs I had (after a few hours of play). Thanks for the hard work on it.

Reproducable ctd with 1.04

Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:49 pm

Playing the grand campaign I tried 2 times to end the diplomatic turn and to start the reinforcment turn in oktober 1914. I get the information that russia has invented the light machine guns and that they are now public.
Short time ( 3-5 seconds ) after this informations pops up I get a ctd.

The windows Vista feature which asks continously if you're really sure you want to install a program oe execute it. named security feature, it's the primary reason that turned most users against Vista. I myself disabled UAC on my laptop.

Ok; it seems that I paniced all little too much. In my 3rd attempt I had no crash. I did nothing else tha before (just started the save game and clicked through the messages) but this time i got to the reinforcment phase.
I guess this time there was no information that the russian invention of the light machine gun get public.

I feel the systematical bugs causing CTD and freeze have been fixed. It would be howewer miraculous limited ones to have been totally eradicated too.

The real problem is now the lack of manual.

Patch 1.04 looking good indeed.
Play a bit 2 player GC, much more smoother, no CTD, although still in August 1914... :neener: Even the intro video now plays fine !

And the new "front" filter of the map was a spectacular addition  :coeurs:

Keep up the good work, Calvinus

Spoke too soon. Just had a CTD in the 1914 2 player scenario.

What should we post for the devs to catch the crashes? I don't see an obvious file in the game folder.

Unzip the file and copy the LandOptions.ini file inside the [game dir]\Data\AI\Brains folder.

This will fix the AI hang in Main Offensive Major Battles. :)

Hi Calvinus , if you replace the file I was left hanging major offensives, if I return to leave the original no longer
Uninstall the game and went back to install it without replacing the file, it now appears that goes well
Went back to replace it and I was again left hanging
I'm playing the new GUI TEST SCENARY as German

I saw that scenario. What is it for-- to somehow test the interface?

It's obvious that this game badly needs an in-depth manual and a much better tutorial, which covers all aspects of the game.

I give up! I'm very tired. Crashes, unzippping multiple files that cause more problems, a lousy interface, playing almost blind for lack of decent documentation, and that damn map, with its dizzying colors and stupid orientation! To much work and eye squinting for a game. :(
Back to AACW, I see it has a new patch!

"New map mode filter: Fronts"

I'm not seeing this filter. Anyone know where it is?

Edit, just realized it's the TAB key.

Yes, it's a scenario for testing game interface. No real gameplay.

You can find a lot of posts on the forum about this problem. You have to disable a option of Vista...

I saw you have to disable the "UAC". ;)

Perhaps it is time to make a sticky about how to disable UAC in Vista and why it is recommended

User Account Control or UAC is a new feature in Vista that asks for permission to do system software tasks and also run programs. Unfortunately, this security feature is also annoying. I cannot predict the future of your system or what kind of security vulnerabilities will be used to attack systems, and as such, you need to decide for yourself if you desire to keep UAC active, but if you wish to disable it, here is how I do it:

With the default Category Control Panel:

Head to Start
Select Control Panel
Select System and Maintenance
Select Administrative Tools
Select the System Configuration button
Select the Continue button (if UAC is active)
Select the Tools Tab
Select "Disable UAC"
Select the Launch button
Select the Ok button to close the panel
You will have to reboot for the setting to take effect.

Don't worry... Click again the Reinforcements button and you will get again the "next-turn" button working.

Indeed the current behaviour is confusing. I'm going to change it immediately!

Installed patch, now game won't run at all!

Wed Nov 19, 2008 12:56 pm

I installed the patch, no serial number was asked for, and now when I try to run it all I get is a pop-up message saying "Your serial key is invalid! You are not allowed to run World War One!"

What the hell?

Hi tuatara, and welcome to the forums :)

calvinus posted early in this thread that you'll need to re-enter the serial key when installing this patch, but also that this should be the last patch you need to do that for :)

Go on WW1 configurator, retype your serial number on it and you will be able to play.
The installation of the patch has erased the serial number. ;)
