Questions regarding unit movement

Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:27 am

Hi,

i have a question regarding activation and movement of units, which are not part of an army. Currently i try the game with the "Army-by-Army" activation rule, but how can i activate and move units which are not belong to an army? If i have activated all armies, the turn is finished and the AI makes his turn. I can't move the non attached units anymore.
Oh yes, and some other questions :)

After i have conquered a region with some rails, a special icon appears inside these new region ... a shield with an attached flag and some arrows ... can someone explain me the meaning of this icon?

How can i reach the colonies? More precisely the offmap areas. If i want to move a corps to an offmap box, should i send the corps by naval movement? Can you explain me the exact steps?

Hopefully we get the manual soon.

And now, some last comments ... it's a very interesting game and i am awaiting the upcoming patches. It seems, it could be a game with a long time motivation ...

Good work :)

For this part I also am awaiting an answer. When you take an enemy's region, the rail systems back then had different guage of track. So the tracks had to be reworked to match your railways. That's cool, the game says the answer is to click the little button in your unit box to the left of movement types (its called repair rail or something, i am not at home now so cant check). I've tried this button with single units, armies, stationary, moving through the region, etc - but the rails never get fixed. Sometimes when I tell that unit to fixt he rails, then re-select the unit later before processing, its been de-selected. So I don't have any idea how to fix the rails

I guess the reason is because you first move the unit (drag & drop) and then you click on the button. It's annoying... I know. I will correct the procedure allowing also the click after the move.

So what Calvinus said also means, that you have to move the unit to convert the area. Works fine for me.

Hmmm, i don't understand it. I can't move the non attached units. The units which are attached to a army can be moved after i have activated the army, that's okay. But at which moment i can move the non attached units? Somewhere i have read that the units can be moved after all armies has been moved. And yes i can move the units via drag and drop after all armies has been moved but i must confirm the unit movement. How can i do this? I can press the end turn button but no movement will be performed. All units still stands at there old locations. What button do you mean if you say, i must press the button before the movement?
(edit)
[Calvinus, Tamas]Now, i have read your answer again and you mean the problem with the rail system? Okay, i can try it. But can someone help me with my other problems?
Thank you :)

Well you have to hit the enact all movements button before end turn... but I guess you are already doing that?

By the way, do note that with the strictly turn based gamemode you are adding a big layer of difficulty for the AI. Not only it takes considerably longer for it to resolve its own turn, its performance in terms of effective planning will be reduced. I am quite satisfied with the AI in the normal game mode, but when you ask of it to not only make plans for movement, but also realize what is the optimal order of activation, it suffers.

So my preference is normal mode for single player, army-by-army activation for multiplayer. :)

I have hit the enact all movement button with my last army. But for my understanding i must press this button to finish the movement of the army and only afterwards i can move the non attached units. To finish this movement, i can't press the enact all movement button anymore. Should i be able to press the button again?

Oh, okay then i will try to play the game in the normal game mode. But it seems to be more interesting to play it in the army-by-army mode. Will the ai still be reworked to use this mode also without problems against the ai?

and thank you very much for the fast response :)
