A small voice of support

Just to say thank you for giving us this title. I've read and understand many of the frustrations and some anger espesially from those who have the big freeze problems.
My experience so far though as all been good no lock ups and the A.I processing is fast enough. Yes I agree there is work to be done and the interface maybe harder or less familiar than those of us who have played ACW and BOA are used to but I'm sure that all this will get better with time
I seldom post but feel that I do not want the niggles to overshadow just how good this game has the portential to be. It's highly complex and like all games of that sort will require much patience and understanding and whilst us players pursue that understanding the developers will be busy with the fine tunning.
In the end we will have a fantastic product on a period seldom covered and we as the customers will all play a big part in that. The critisim is all to the good providing it is constuctive and fair. Too much of it and good games may never see the light of day. Beta testing can only go so far and discover so much. The game needs to be on the shelves and played by many before all the crinkles can be ironed out.
I know alot of people who claim we are used as Beta testers and pay good money to do so but I for one will continue to support with my £'s games of this nature. Being in from the begining and watching the system grow and improve is for me also a part of the fun.

got to agree, i would have thought that most people who know this company realize that the game will develop and problems ironed out over time, some people enjoy helping with the glitches etc

for this reason i will not buy the game till the boxed version is out and a few patches have been done

At last I have had time to play the Serbia scenario.

In short: my config showed none of the bad omen of hardware incompatibilty: no freeze, no CTD, no lags. The mouse is precise and responsive.

All in all, the interface is yet slighty inferior to the Age engine. Buttons could be larger, fonts aren't for my taste, I dislike the pointer. But nothing is really screwed.

The GFX are good, some elements being nicer than others. I think the map to be sometimes a bit difficult to read, some symbols are maybe too small but once again, I'm biased by the very high standard of the AGE engine, which is far ahead anything currently for graphical work in computer wargaming.

AI: AI time needed was rather short.And there's an AI, moving units and fighting battles. I've no clue on the AI qualitative value but even dumb, AI isn't braindead like in EIA

The game: without manual, it's really difficult to grasp the game mechanism. By combining tutorials, tooltip and boardgame rules, it's possible to learn to play. I suspect even with a complete manual, much time will be needed to learn the intricacies of the game system. But, for the small part I now understand, I should say maybe never in computer wargaming a finer system was designed. i've got the impression any factor has been taken into account and integrated in the computation. I never played the boardgame and frankly I wonder how some can have played it with computer assistance.

The depiction of armies in HQ, resrves and detachment seems to be tailored to encompass all the fighting nuances, from the cavalry screen role to the siege operations. Once used to the battle screen, there's a real pleasure to fight battle rounds.

Of course, some gfx glitches makes things sometimes very difficult to understand ( battle results for example).

But I really believe WW1 to be possibly the best computer wargame of this year...when it will be totally published with its manual of course :mdr:

Hi All,

Im installing it as I type. I have no doubt the game will be fixed and supported properly. It is without a doubt a very ambitious undertaking, and I personally have always looked foreward to a game with this scope covering the period in question.

At any rate im off to play!

Totally agree with you Clovis. Even without a decent manual the game is much more fun to play than many other wargames which are released this year. Especially the AI is not so bad for a 1.0 release. :thumbsup: And the board game rules are not so difficult to read. What helps too is to look in the modding/db folder and look at the files there. They are in excel format and can easily be read. So you can better understand the rules and formulas behind the game. Hopefully the patch will fix the freezes and crash bugs some of you have so you can enjoy this game too. It is really worth to play.
