For me... Germany is the most interesting choice... It is the Star in this party, and totally win the war (not only the game) with them is something than must be tried!

AH is going to be a challenging country, depending on the various options the enemy decides it can be hard to play. If Russia concentrates on them, Serbia starts somewhat strengthened and Germany priorizes other fronts...

Russia and France are interesting countries, but as they are mainly 1 front countries this reduces somewhat the motivation for playing with them. Of course they are going to be able to decide interesting choices.... help Belgium or Not / Concentrate in AH or Prusia / ....

I like the flavour the Ottomans in some multiplayer games... Here they are going to be also a challenging defensive country...

Unfortunately, I see no real challenge in playing as Brit or Italian... perhaps seem somewhat easy or boring for me...

Of the allies probally the most interesting imo, but it is all subjective

The British certainly have the most strategic options, especially if Germany make the main push in the East.

A-H has to be my choice aswell. As, imo the biggest loser in the war, the challenge of trying to hold together its empire, fighting on 3 fronts, russia, serbia and italy and trying to help the germans would i believe give so much quality playing time.

I would take Russia for learning because they have the fewest options. This has been my approach with all these sorts of games: Europa U., Vicky, etc.

I would imagine that second choice would be the US, introducing naval warfare. Then one of the smaller land powers, probably A-H, then France, Germany, or the UK.

what would be cool and i suppose outside the scope of the official developers, at least for the original game is a scenario depicting the turbulent era in central and eastern europe in the years 1918 till 1920. maybe a russian civil war scenario? of course im too lazy to do any valuable contribution

Indeedn, the borders were drawn by treaties in the West, but most ones the East were decided by war or confrontations, such as Polish ones (even in Silesia), Baltic states, Caucasus, Greece and Turkey...
And a what if with the Entente fighting into the 20's victorious eastern reds, wouldn't that be great. Modders, do you ear that?

for me its gotta be playing the British Empire first! i kinda like the micro management it would incure, supposingly of course that you would have to support a recruitment programme for all the variuos people that would fill its ranks. British, Canadian, Indian, Australian, New Zealanders, South Africans and variuos colonial troops. would be great!

But it would have been also my first choice, because it's a rather small country, one major front to deal with, limited resources and opportunities, so a good choice to start with and learn to play + interesting challenge!

it is my understanding that you have two campaign modes: 1st where you play a camp and a 2nd where you can play a country.

Afterwards I'll probably go for the British Empire.

I am German so I will start with the Germans, and try to fulfill the The Second Riech's wish and stop WWII from ever happening. Then I imagine that I will play England to truely see if they are like a cut of butter on an endless slice of bread.Russia just to see if I can endure the brutal German armies and rebuild the 1916 Russian army to bleed AH dry. Then France to see what is like being cornered with your back up against the wall. AH just to see if I can just survive,Italy to try and not fight 12 battles at the iszano, and lastly, the Ottomans to see if the sick man of Europe can indeed retake kuwait, southern Russia and egypt or at least close the Suez.

I do not know. In the manual I just see that for a campaign you pick a "side" Central Powers or Entente. Perhaps someone else knows ??

There is a scenario where you control both Germany and A-H, and a 4 player one when only one of them.

Also, when you get control of a minor country, you get to control all aspects of it.
