Ok- I am sorry to say it is time to ask about this feature again. It has been a couple of months, is there any progress? The lack of progress on the web based multiplayer is the only thing keeping me from purchasing NCP.

While I certainly agree that this is a good company that has shown excellent support for their games, I think this whole thread is a significant blemish that needs to be addressed. Especially when I see a thread from Bis in the NCP forums complaining about pbem (which is still rather cumbersome IMHO).

Seconded
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

We are proposing a TCP/IP utility in Napoleon's Campaigns, which is still not perfect (and we plan to integrate it in the game) but is still an advance. The next step is indeed to continue the work on the Play By Web server. Sorry about your disappointment, we have to make choices everyday as we are a small team. Generally it boils down to fix bugs, propose new gameplay choices, and include some ideas of improvements if we feel they are good for the game. And this leave us with few time, or none...

I just can say there is no malice in the delay. We do our maximum, and if there is a delay on something, that's because we just don't have the manpower to advance the feature, and not because we want to frustrate players ;) .. Perhaps for you PBWeb should have gotten priority over the rest, but we decided otherwise (and we will bear the consequences by having disgruntled players, if we make the bad choices.)

Fair enough- I can make my purchase choices accordingly.

I never suspected malice. I recognize that it is all about making choices and
establishing priorities for limited resources. The web based play was very enticing and I hope it is eventually produced. It is a priority of mine but apparently I am in a small minority.

Thank you for your reply and good luck with your continued endeavors.

I too have put off any more purchases from AGEOD due to the fact that PBEM.....is less than I had hoped. Seeing the HIGH STANDARDS the AGEOD team has set for the rest of its' game, I sure hope PBEM will be addressed soon.

Any Progress?

Thu Dec 13, 2007 5:49 pm

Hello All,
Just asking Pocus if there is any Dec. update on play-by-web-portal for us multiplayers? Has the internal testing started?

Pocus wrote:The TCP/IP module is coming for NCP and it will works for BOA and ACW (for free). We still not have coped with the replay module though, are resources are streched thin these days (weeks, months). It will be done, that is sure, but we can't give you a deadline.

The most 'luxurious' Play by web portal is still developed, we have good hope to start internal testing in december.

Am willing to be a play-tester if required, :siffle:
regards,
John

We would like to finalize the TCP/IP utility (named ARES) which ships with Napoleon's Campaigns before, perhaps integrating completely the interface in the game itself. This is still debated in the team. Also we would like to get more feedback on the utility before moving back to the big brother (the PBWEB module)

How does ARES work?

Thu Dec 13, 2007 9:34 pm

For us non-NCP players, (I only have AACW, which I love) can someone briefly describe the ARES process for multiplayer.
My search of this site hasnt come across this detail.

Thanks in advance.

Also, thanks Pocus for the quick response, am glad to hear AGEOD is continuing its work on the PBWEB and will port ARES to its previous games.

Here is the PDF doc. For further question, there is a subforum for ARES in the NCP technical forum, moderated by Celtic.

Sorry Pocus but I have zero interest in online play.
I am however very interested in the play-by-web-portal.

I would like to know how many other AGEOD players feel the same? (An online poll perhaps?)

AGEod development plans have put the PBWeb utility on hold.

This is typically a no win choice. Either Pocus works on the PBWeb, either works on Vainglory of Nations, and he develops the new module for diplomacy management and grand campaigning.

We picked the latter. Meanwhile, we'll try to improve the ARES system. As Pocus mentionned, ARES can be upgraded significativly. Once integrated in the game system, it will offer 70% of the PBWEb features. Please contribute in the ARES forum.

For now, this thread is closed.

Best regards,

Korrigan
