Warning: AGEod is about to release two new games!!!

Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:42 pm

In the AGEod team, we love to make some nice surprises...

So here are the news:

In the next few days, AGEod will release two new games.

The first one will be a pure strategy and reflexion game (you know, the simple but addictive type).

The second one will deal with one of the most important conflicts for the history of France and Western Europe... Things would be so different if...

The game proposes a brand new 3D engine, a completly different design and gameplay and an amazing amount of historical researches.

Both have been developed by two sister teams, both share the AGEod high quality standards.

Tease, tease, tease...

Germany vs. England at penalty shooting?

Seriously, my guess is something related to WW I or Thirty Years War.

3D???
After the EU3 experience i'm not sure if i should be glad or worried :innocent:
So... this two new games are in addition to BOA2 and VGN???
My girlfriend will hate you... or leave me... or both :niark:

Edit:
Rereading korrigan's post... it seems this new games have no relation to our beloved AGEOD engine, isn't it?
So the 3D statement's does not mean the end of AGEOD beautiful 2D maps??
I hope so!! :coeurs:

If we are talking of a different game engine, 3D is Ok with me... :siffle:

My bets for what the future games are...
- AGEOD Strip Poker
- AGEOD Hundred Years War :sourcil:

Cheers!

So AGEod has grown enough to venture into the realm of "publisher."

Bonne chance, mes amis.

Actually, the two Phils are plotting global domination; not just publishing. What better way to disguise a fiendish attempt at world conquest than by operating a strategy game company? :) This is where all the great conquerors of history failed. They showed their true hand too soon.

Ooooh tantalising!!

I am guessing the Hundred Year War

*squeezes eyes shut and dreams happy thoughts of Jehanne d'Arc*

As for 3d, well we shall have to see. the 2d engine is fine enough as it is. Many of the good stuff has been forced to go 3d with mixed effect.

Will be optimistic though.

More news about the tow incoming games:

Strategy/puzzle game:

Your mission is to protect the exit from being reached by evil monsters. If the monsters are able to penetrate your defenses and reach the exit, you lose life points.

To defend the exit, you can build several towers , each with its own characteristics and special abilities. You customize the built towers by improving their capabilities, like burning effect, number of firing rays, etc., and pick one of the targeting strategies. You can also cast powerful magic spells directly at the ennemy.

The monsters have their unique special abilities, being able to heal each other, speed up their buddies and even clone themselves.

After a carefull analyse of the map, the aim for you is to design your own and wicked defensive strategy...

The game is really user friendly, with a very nice graphic touch. Very easy to understand, I've been playing it regularly between two long campaigns and very often find myself engulfed, trying all kind of new defensive strategies for hours.

Historical PC boargame:

Features:
- A period full of famous battles, treaties, treasons, weddings... Anvil of two nations
- A game developed by a new studio with a friendly team
- A game designer coming from the boardgame world just like P.Thibaut
- Simple and aesthetic 3D engine
- Turn based
- Card driven actions
- Simple, Efficient and proved mechanisms
- Multiplayer supported
- Various diplomatic actions

Both games are really different from the previous AGEod products, but we have chosen them for their own qualities. We LOVED these games. Both offer hours of entertainment.
More later... but I would not be surprised if some of you could guess the games by now!

I've posted this in War-Historical Newsgroup:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.war-historical/topics?hl=en

OK guys, I think you deserve to get the prime, here are our plans:

January:

Wicked defense: A strategy and puzzle game

http://www.wicked-defense.com

Your mission is to protect the exit from being reached by monsters. If
the monsters are able to penetrate your defenses and reach the exit,
you lose life points.

To defend the exit, you can build several towers , each with its own
characteristics and special abilities. You customize the built towers
by improving their capabilities, like burning effect, number of firing
rays, etc., and pick one of the targeting strategies. You can also
cast powerful magic spells directly at the ennemy.

The monsters have their unique special abilities, being able to heal
each other, speed up their buddies and even clone themselves.

After a carefull analyse of the map, the aim for you is to design your
own and wicked defensive strategy...

The game is really user friendly, with a very nice graphic touch. Very
easy to understand, I've been playing it regularly between two long
campaigns and very often find myself engulfed, trying all kind of new
defensive strategies for hours.

This game is not an historical wargame, as you may have guessed.
However it's an excellent puzzle game, combining intense reflexion,
startegy and fast paced (pausable) action. We wanted our community to
discover it and the puzzle game community to discover our games :o )

Release: January 17th

Montjoie: Historical PC Boardgame

http://www.montjoiegame.com/
(english version available soon)

"Montjoie!!!" was the French knights war cry during the Hunderd Years
war.
Montjoie proposes you to play this intense conflict that shaped
werstern europe. We could have called it "Birth of France" but the dev
team had another idea :o )

Tchounga is a new studio. It looks very much like AGE Studio (AGEod
original studio). Pascal Bernard, the game designer, comes from the
Boardgame industry just like Philippe Thibaut. The Tchounga team is
made of passionate gamers, and you can feel it in the attention they
put in quality details. Like AGE Studio, they are fond of history and
Montjoie comes with a huge historical database about the Hundred Years
War. AGEod is very proud to welcome them.

Montjoie mechanisms come from the boardgame. Don't expect a proper
Historical wargame. Expect an EXCELLENT historical boardgame. However,
Montjoie is simple and efficient.
Features:
- Aesthetic 3D engine
- Turn based
- Card driven actions
- Very competente AI (I had my a.. served on a plate numerous time!)
- Multiplayer supported
- Various diplomatic actions

A demo in English will be made available soon.

ETA: End January 2008

As says Philippe Thibaut: "AGEod future is in the access to a broader
community. By producing quality games we will build strong links of
thrust with our customers. However, we need to produce more games, we
need to offer different games to attract different players and let
them discover our catalog. AGEod ambition is to become a key quality
strategy games provider".

I love when he speaks like that, it makes me dream about a better
wage :o )

But YOU, You guys from the War-Historical Newgroup, you want the real
Mac Coy, and here its:

ETA Q1 2008: Birth of America 2

More conflicts covered
More units
More historical units
More historical events
Improved scenarios for the French and Indian War and the Independence
War
More political, diplomatic, economic and military options
(recruitment...)
Bigger map

BoA will keep the unique hand drawn graphisms, BoA 2 will keep the
simple and elegant mechanisms that made its success. BoA will remain
BoA but you can expect a game that will offer more of BoA and has
taken full benefits from the AACW and NCP experience.

ETA Q3 2008: European theater secret project (sorry Eddy...)

Yes, the AGE Studio has not yet finished BoA2 that we are already
working on a new game. The war covered is still secret (we never
anounce our games before they reach Beta phase) but we're sure you'll
like it. It'll use a custom version of the BoA 2 engine.

ETA Q1 2009: Vainglory of Nations

Our next big game, the mother of all the monster games we plan
(Napoleon's Grand campaign game, World War 2 game, etc.)

Vainglory will offer you a brand new version of the AGE engine:
Diplomacy, Economy, Pre-Modern warfare, etc...

An ambitious project that will need all of Philippe Malacher and
Philippe Thibaut attention for a full year of work.

Finally, we are considering working on other projects... more
exotic... But money and time will be the real constraint. We are also
discussing with other Dev teams, indenpendent friends that share our
values. More news later!!!

I was amongst the ones to push Wicked Defense to be published by us. Yuriy Kotsarenko, the author, is a very talented Delphi programmer (the language in which we code our games and the AGE engine) and I admit I'm very impressed by what he did with 1 and 0 :)

Also, if (when!) you try the demo (or directly the full game), you will be tricked by the reflexion it asks... You get nice particles flying everywhere, but in the end, this is an addictive puzzle game, and I admit to be hooked by it (I often launch a game or two during lunch, but I still remember spending a whole evening trying to solve a particular level... things start nice sometime, but you get overwhelmed by an unexpected kind of monsters later. Ouch!).

Direct Link to the demo (it will be posted elsewhere too):

I did it! It is rumored that he who can pass the first level of Tornado can live eternally...

This sucks, it's a French website that I can't read ... it's like those French have a different word for everything. However, the screenshots looked interesting.

Daniel

EDIT by Korrigan: The game will be released in a couple of weeks, by then everything will have been translated. Arsan successfully find the name and the website before, but we are still working on it, don't worry. :cwboy: ::

Well, this Wicked Defence game does not seem to be the kind of thing that I would search, but to help you guys :coeurs: and to give the benefit of doubt to Pocus I will say "present" and buy it :gardavou:
Now, Montjoie, that's a whole different thing; it seems to hit one of my soft spots and I am truly anxious to try it (where to find time to play is another thing, as I have not yet really played NCP...being yet absorbed with AACW, gamewise)
