Try the following:

1. De-activate your UAC [how-to at: http://www.ageod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11621&highlight=UAC ]
2. Uninstall the game
3. Use Explorer to find "Wars in America" folder under Program Files.
4. Delete the "Wars in America" Directory and all it contains [you will lose saved games]
5. Reinstall WIA, but change the default directory box to read "C:\AGEOD\Wars in America" [or any hard drive you wish]
6. Download the latest patch from: http://www.ageod.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=199
7. Extract the patch file and run it [it shoud automatically go to the "C:\AGEOD\Wars in America" location]
8. Run WIA

Be sure you have installed DirectX 9, as Vista's inherent DirectX10 is not fully backward compatible.

Hi!
Check this thread
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=11280&highlight=D3DX81ab.dll

There, Nikel provides a link to download the missing file.
It seems to be a DX8 file included in XP but not on Vista, that the game needs to run.
Just download and copy it to your Wars in America folder, by the game exe and it should work
Cheers

In fact the game rarely gives installation difficulties... :)
But Vista can make the simplest task very complicate ;)
(fortunately i'm still using XP :D )
Don't know what kind of squall.dll you found out there, but mine is in the main Wars in America folder and weights juts 183 kb. If you want to try it, i'll attach it here for you :)
Just unrar and copy to your main WIA directory
C:\Program files\Wars in America

Cheers and good luck

Ouch! :bonk: What a mess you have there! :(
I've run out of ideas, and searching the forum for this new problem gives no result.
I think you woudl do better sending a mail to support@ageod.com so the "professionals" can take a look at it. ;)
Explain them the problems you have and attach the logs generated by the game you can found in here
C:\Program files\Wars in America\WIA\Logs
It may be useful for them to solve the issue
Cheers!
