Getting started as the non-hosting player in a PBEM game.

Thu Mar 05, 2009 4:28 am

Greetings,

A freind and I are attempting to start a PBEM game. He's hosting. I'm running it on a Windows machine that uses Vista. After reading the manual, I created a file for the game per the instructions: WIAGame\WIA\Saves\Wilderness War to mirror the file he'd created for the game.

He sent the TRN file as an email attachment. I oppened the attachment and performed a "save as", saving to the Wilderness War file. I've repeated the save as several times, and it acts as if it is saving OK, replacing the previous version of the file. When I open up the Wilderness War file to comfirm the save worked, it reads as being empty, even though the save indicated a file was replaced.

When I start the game and look to load, the turn is not present in the load game menu. I can start a campaign game labelled Wilderness War, do my turn and send him the ORD file and he reports that everything ran as it should on his end. I just cannot for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong.

I dropped a thread asking for help on the forum, and a person reported back that Vista saves the TRN files off somewhere else. I've looked for the TRN file elsewhere with no luck.

We both love the game and are looking forward to our first PBEM game, but I just cannot get it started on my end.

Could you provide me with detailed instructions on how to save and load up a PBEM game taking everything above into account. Something is strange, but I evidently need help.

Thank you.
