Newbie questions

Tue Jan 04, 2011 4:07 pm

Hi

I've only recently "discovered" the AGEOD games, and have purchased Rise of Prussia, WiA2 and Napoleon's Campaigns from Gamersgate. I've decided to start with WiA2, as that's the period of history I'm most interested in.

I'm working through the tutorials and manual, and wading through these forums, trying to get my head round things. So far it looks very deep (in a good way!), and I'm really enjoying things so far. I think I'm gonna really enjoy these games!

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but could anyone offer any advice on how to interpret the Battle Reports? I kind-of understand what it says in the manual, and appreciate the amount of information that's available on the screen, but have trouble equating it in terms of 'this is what happened', if that makes sense?

Also, I am interested in joining others in PBEM games at some point. Do you think I need to spend some time in single-player before trying PBEM?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I usually turn off the battle circle "animation" so that I can get the hourly reports of how I am closing with the enemy at the bottom of the screen. These reports come in the form of ranges of 4,3,2,1 down to "assault" over the course of each round of combat. The audio will give you some idea of what is happening as well.

Assuming you can interpret the battle report at the end of the day as you say, you can get a fair idea of what happened.

It's generally agreed that this series could go a long way in adding even the simplest of battle animations to give us a better idea of how things progress through each round of combat.

Well at least to understand the basic mechanisms. E.g : If you don't learn how to avoid effect of attrition in your solo-game you'll be wiped out in a PBEM.

Also playing single-player once with each side give you a better understanding of strengths and weaknesses of each party.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't realised about turning off the battle animations - I'll give that ago...looks like the extra information would be interesting.

I've also seen posts talking about the battlelogs text files - might try looking at those too.

I've been playing with the demo, and reading the manual, and think I'm starting to get my head round this game....now to try a campaign!!

Thanks again.
