Yes its WAD. The connection between both regions is Major Ferry. So it will take some days to cross and counts as major river crossing in battle with big penalties, but you don't need boats.
I have no idea of USA geography, but was told the crossing there is not too difficult as there were plenty of ferry possibilities.
So consider it like an oversizes big river crossing.
Brooklyn and New York also have a similar connection.
Cheers

little boats ;)

WAD
There is a Major Crossing link there, added at the very beginning of the game, IIRC to avoid total entrapment on Long Island.

so the americans are wandering around with coracles on their backs ;) :D

hope theres a plan to include these links on the map to make it possible to see what areas need blocking/controlling! getting cought out by moves i didnt think were possible is mildly annoying :( still think washington is trapped tho' :fleb:

that only works if you have a unit in the required region.not very usefull for predicting enemy moves! :neener:

on a seperate note,i understood that having a blockading naval force in offensive posture would prevent crossing attempts by land forces(at least it does in AACW).didnt stop washington tho.am i missing something about blocking enemy sea/river crossings

Currently the game engine design is limited to what you see.
And this type of crossing is not blocked either. It simply 'jumps over' the ships' [which is the same behavior that scuttled some of our unimplemented portage ideas ;) ]

Will review the presence of that crossing link. :)

That crossing isn't as small as the one between Brooklyn and New York (Manhattan). They've been talking about building a bridge over that body of water (Long Island Sound) forever, but it's too big to do cheaply. The current ferries do the trip in 1.5 hours. It's roughly 15 miles.

They don't block in this case as the engine has no way to note the crossing from the water region being 'jumped'

This crossing link will be removed in next patch :D

ive no real problem with that link or others being there.i would just like to see purely cosmetic changes made to the map such as a ferry symbol with a couple of arrows showing the connections.the same could be done for the porterage routes. with such cosmetic changes there would be no need to change any of the 'workings' of the game but it would allow peeps to see where these links are :)

The LI Sound crossing at 15mi seems far-fetched, so removing it is fine with me. But I've seen units auto-retreat from Manhattan into Brooklyn before and if there isn't a second crossing to the island it becomes a cul-de-sac trap for retreated troops. How about keeping the Brooklyn-Manhattan crossing, scrapping the LI Sound at the eastern end, and adding one from the Brooklyn area to the area north of Manhattan (Hanbury? White Plains? Whatever it's called - sorry don't have the map).
