PBEM as the non-hosting player.

Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:17 am

I'm appealling for assistance from you experienced PBEM gamers. A freind and I want to begin a PBEM game, French & Indian Campaign to be specific. He is hosting. I've reviewed the instructions in the manual, but I have two questions:

1) He began the game and sent me the first turn's TRN file. I opened the file, and then saved it (save as) to a file I created: WIAGame\WIA\Saves\Wilderness War. When I looked into the folder afterwards, it is indicated to be empty. But when I repeat the "save as" I get a message that the TRN file is already there and saving will replace the file. I did so. OK, that is strange. Am I missing something in the TRN save process?

2) Once I'm able to confirm that the TRN file has been saved properly, just what steps do I go through to start the very first turn of a PBEM game on my end? I though it would be to go into the "Load Game" menu, pick Wilderness War, and start it up, but at present the menu is empty. Should I be opening this as a "New Game" labelled Wilderness War on my end, or is there something else I should be doing?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

If you're using Vista, the save files are located in a different directory..... some crazy long list like (User/local/.....) with several directories following (if i had time, I'd give you the exact location) eventually you'll find what looks like a mirror of your program files directory, and the saves are stored there. I put a shortcut to that directory on my desktop and email my ORD files from there.

You resume your game by loading up the next TRN file your host sends you. Hope that helps....

Thanks! I AM using Vista and had no idea that was going on. I'll hunt down the location.

If anyone else can give me any tips I'll appreciate the help. Me and any other folks trying to get PBEM down.
