Could you possibly post it here as attachment. Ofcourse, if it is not too much too ask :innocent: .
BTW, your english is excellent. Take it from Croatian :niark:
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

Your english is just fine. A lot of us have english as a second language and can have trouble with spelling or expressing us as we would be able to in our native tounge, but you don't have to worry your english is more than fine and your AAR a great read :coeurs:

for maps, an adress i found in another section of this forum. It is the source of quite all maps of the CSA side http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/collections/civil_war_maps/cwmap.html

I am really glad of the multiplayer choice....As i am in charge of a single theater in a war, i really feel implicated deeper in my game. It is really a different feeling than solo on a side: it really calls me for a different thought as i am focused on an operational scale

Could you revise your link? It appears broken.

Thanks

Hey guys. Thanks for the feedback.
As for my entries, 99% of the maps and images I use come from the U.S. Library of Congress digital archives.

Maps:http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/civil_war_maps/
Images:http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html

The maproom has some handy zoom features which allow me to allowed me to get great resolution. Best source of original Civil War maps on the net. In the prints and photos room I always include Civil War in my search, and they have thousands of images.

For the telegram I use, I googled Civil War telegraph companies and edited out the original handwritten text from the ones I wanted to use. The blank letter I use came from Hinkel (see attachment), and I have more for future use I found here: http://etext.virginia.edu/civilwar/. Just edited out text to leave a blank form.

Thanks
John

You guys are doing an outstanding job with the Grand AAR!

I wouldn't want to offer any suggestions on what to change.
I'd rather just let you guys grow into the role and change as you go along.
Sort of developing your personalities as the game progresses.

Yap. I second this. Each of you has his own unique style. And each of you is doing his AAR, at least 10 times better then I did as beta so... Carry on boys. I enjoy every single line you all write.

Godspeed

I agree to. I thoroughly enjoy the different styles of writing. what I overall like from all off you is the nice screenshots, and maps showing moves and planned moves that gives a nice quick idea of what is going on.

I'll throw in my 2 cents worth and agree with Lasse, that the screenshots with your ideas for troop movement (or showing where they had moved) is very entertaining and educational.

Thanks guys for being willing to play this out for the crowd. I definitely am addicted and find myself checking at least daily (often a couple times a day) to see if there has been any more further adventures.

Thanks,

The public hasn't heard much from the two Presidents :siffle:

By the way, this entire project is truly fascinating.
Every new post just drips with anticipation for what the next turn may bring.

I am a turn or two behind on my AAR'ing, and I am sorry for that. Real life is ugly, and I need to have some "peace and quiet" around me to get an AAR post done.

That being said, the presidents (speaking for myself, at least) haven't heard much from the public, either ;)

something strange for me (but I'm not a native english speaker), the CSA president sign to his generals with 'your faithful servant' I think. Is it not too 'subordinate-like' ?

Pocus, you are probably right about my sounding "subordinate-like". I intended to imply that the president is a faithful servant to all people of his/her nation (in a perfect world anyway) by nature of the office. Anyone else have a thought on this.

Yes tc, you havent heard as much from the presidents. Personaly speaking my AAR is not combat specific, so specific strategies and attempts to decipher the intentions of our enemy are not going to show up in my AAR. Only general observations. The "executive decisions" to be made just dont require as much thought or input as the Theater Commanders decisions do. So I just try to give overall impressions. Any suggestions or requests by you or any of the readers are certainly welcome, and I will attempt to incorporate them in the future.

As a final note, both rafiki and I are the last person to get the turn and for me. I have to see my generals moves and requests before I can write-up my AAR for the turn. This will lead to a delay sometimes. No excuses, just trying to explain the process a little (and probably poorly) :)

Again thanks for feedback (especially you, you overly-caffinated squirrel) and please keep it coming.

edit: By the way Pocus its early May, 1862 and Gen. Lee is still locked and I havent recieved the unlock event message?

if you see the Lee Takes Command message and Lee is still locked, you are in trouble, until that, it is ok, he can be unlocked later than may.

For my stuff I found actual letters from McClellan and Grant written to the President to see how they signed. I only managed to find one letter from Davis to a general, which was signed:

Very respectfully and truly, yours,
JEFFERSON DAVIS.

I found one between Davis and a congressman, which was signed:

I am, as always, your friend,
JEFFERSON DAVIS

But it appears a lot of his letters are in collections that don't have reproductions online, which is a shame. One thing I loved about going to school in a southern school was that there was a ton of civil war material on file in the university library to access. I miss that. :)

Hope you enjoyed it. You realize that your new government is going to expect you to start working American migrant farm worker hours.

I know that there has been some tentative commentary from the principals in this project that their "national morale" for posting is suffering because they are not getting much feedback from the "community," but, hey, I always thought we kids and kibitzers were supposed to be seen and not heard.

I have read with pleasure and admiration what has been posted so far, and I hope to see more.

Maybe participants wanting to hear more from us "great unwashed" might come to this thread with some "whaddaya think?" kinds of posts to get us started.

Of course, I get an increasing sense that my opinion of things is often better left unsaid...

change in HQs?

Sat May 19, 2007 8:06 am

I just noticed in another thread that the HQs rules are going to go through some changes.....will this effect the Grand Campaign.

To Grand Campaingers :indien: : Please don't take the lack of our comments as a lack of interest in your project, because like I said earlier, this project is the hotest thing out of the web.

Exactly, alot of us are really, really enjoying this project. Checking the papers every day for updates from the front.
I think we didn't want to comment out of respect to not second guess the actions of the participants involved.
But.... if they really want us to speak up, well then, maybe I got something up my sleeve.... :siffle: muuaahahaha :indien: :king:

Let me just add my name to the chorous of those saying how much they enjoy this project. I know I check every day (often several times a day) to see if there are any new updates. For myself, I'm a bit reticent to comment in case I should let slip anything that might spoil the game.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the first reports after Sunday. :)

Like I posted earlier, I think a great way for non participants to get involved would be to post some real looking "newspapers" based on the just completed turns.

Everyone who wants to be a newspaper editor can. Just pick a city and a paper. :) Maybe design a masthead, then print away!

You can comment on player strategies via "editorials." :grr:

And just be careful to only base your reporting on the public completed turn, and not any of the private posts....although, perhaps you could ask for and print "interviews" with the players (ie, their generals), and those statements may accidentily be too revealing...or be intentionally misleading. :innocent:
