Saved Games

Thu May 15, 2008 1:40 am

I tried to keep a saved game by copying the contents of the recycle bin to a folder and reusing the files.

Now the saves won't go away! I uninstalled NCP, deleted the "Napoleon's Campaigns" folder, and reinstalled the game from scratch.

The saves still appear in the new game and I can't delete them. Or find them in a search.

Where are the saved games held and how can I delete the old ones?

Are you using Vista or XP? With XP, the savegames are under the game's installation directory, but with Vista, I think it can be placed elsewhere.

I'm using Vista, admin account. Strange, the full set of save files are only visible when I delete them in NCP, in the Recycle Bin. Otherwise Vista seems to be hiding them, despite my settings to see system and hidden files in Explorer.

A search for the files on the HD doesn't reveal anything either, though the save games are definitely lurking somewhere.

Miracles of Microsoft. I'll keep investigating and post here if I find anything out...

is the game installed on C: ? I believe that apps installed on others drives are less prone to this special treatment from Microsoft.

I only have the C: drive, maybe I should get another. Vista certainly seems to think it knows better than I do how to organise my PC!

Hi Chertio

In search tools, click on search pane. Now advanced search. Then check include non indexed, hidden and system files (might be slow).

In fact it is slow, searched for one of the known saved files, 1806 Campaign.hst and took ages. So with option size greater than 1700, it took some time but found it.

Hope this helps

Thank you, Nikel, that worked! An option I didn't know about.

They turned up under the Users area... /Appdata/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Napoleon's Campaigns

Vista problems with saves

Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:42 pm

A little more info.

I hat the same problem with NCP 1.04b, so I create a new partition ( named D: ) and I copied the NCP directory and files from C: to D:
Then no problems with the disappeared save files.
I've thought there are permission troubles with Vista and C:\Programm Files (Pocus and Rafiki say before).

The same problems with WIA 1.01b and C:\Programm Files directory, but not with the latest version 1.01f.
I don't know which WIA version change the situation.
