Pbem problem

Mon Nov 19, 2007 10:55 pm

I sent my host TRN to my opponent and he sent back an ORD file. However, I can't find the file in the "Load Game" screen. I put the file both in the SAVES directory and a special sub-directory for this PBEM game.

I can't find the ORD file to load. I believe I've followed the instructions to the letter.

Are You the host? Are You sure You unpacked Your opponents ORD-File into the right folder`(the one in which Your Own files for the game in question are located)? Finally, is Your OS Windows Vista? That OS has a strange habit to make files "invisible" on occasion... :siffle:

The PbEM-process can be a bit confusing at first, could You please state what exactly You and Your opponent have done in terms of exchanging files?

Regards, Henry :)

Uhm, You must send Your OPPONENT's TRN-file (the one designated with the indicator of Your opponent's side), otherwise he will give orders to YOUR side and when You unpack the ORD-File he returned, it will simply override Your ORD-File.

But then again, if You really sent Your own TRN-File by accident, then Your opponent should have noticed that he could only give orders to the wrong side... :8o: :siffle:

Bis - see the thread in News from Ageod - Play by web portal. This is a drum that needs to be beaten.

I am optimistic that this format for multiplayer, which was promissed by the company, will greatly improve the multiplayer experience. As it stands now, the pbem is definitely not user friendly (but I don't want to imply that it doesn't work- it is just difficult to figure out).

I have promissed myself to hold out for this feature before purchasing. (and yes based on the demo and very favorable comments here this is painful for me) :p leure:

Yes,yes, I did that right. He sent back the ORD, I put it in the Save folder but it didn't show up on any screen when I went to play.

Weird! You should then see two entries in the Load-Game screen with the name of Your PbEM, one for each side, both with a little paperclip icon on the left to indicate that an ORD-file for the side is present.

If not, the only thngs I could guess out of my bu... eeeh, head would be either

- the opponent's ORD-File was unpacked into the wrong directory
- it was not unpacked, but downloaded in the directory in compressed format
- the file is corrupted or does not end on ".ord".

How many entries of Your game do You see in the "Load-Game Screen"?

It did have an Ord. Load screen just had autosaves and the saves of my solitaire game. Now, he didn't zip his like I zipped mine.

We'll try again.

Maybe you would play a few turns with me. I'd appreciate it because I'm beginning to write my review.

Always use a compression format when sending files in a PbEM, as the manual strongly recommends. I myself am using the freeware version of win-zip and never had problems with corrupted files playing any of the three titles.

I'm one of the poor shmucks (well, the "shmuck-in-Chief" :sourcil: ) who are doing the german localisation (which has entered testing stage on the last weekend) and still on 1.00a. If You can give me another day or two we can give it a try (may be a nice opportunity to check if the different language versions of NCP are compatible, too).

Please contact me through hadoerle.ageod@googlemail.com.
