Am I understanding that right?
Cavalry when at close range check for the charge, which take into account the commander and the unit discipline. If the test is ok, it charges.
Then the target test to form the square, witch basically the same modifiers (commander + discipline).
This lead you to that:
cavalry don't charge: nothing special
cavalry charge, infantry don't form the square: dmg against infantry x1.5
cavalry charge, infantry form the square: dmg against cavalry x2
But as I said, this is under the hood. It is there and functionning in the combat module, but until we add some narrative of the battle, you won't really see the gleam of raised sabers in the morning, and shouts of the officiers yelling at the soldiers to form the square on the other side of the field!
