Many nationalities

Fri Jan 11, 2008 3:42 pm

When an army is composed of many differing nationalities, I notice that many of these never attain reinforcements.

When, say, there are Bavarian troops supporting the French in Austria, there are replacements available for the French divisions, but none for the Bavarian ones. Is this intentional?
In game terms, it does act to make you more careful with the use of the nationalities that you have no reinforcements for.

Replacements are received according to the nationality of the conscript companies produced. In some scenarios, certain nationalties receive little or no replacements because they produce little or no conscript companies.

This is an intentional aspect of design that reflects the historical contribution of these minor countries. In scenarios that last only a few months, small nations like Bavaria didn't have the capability to train a significant number of recruits.

Therefore, the forces that minor nations get at the beginning of a scenario is sometimes all they get.

And yes, it does tend to make players use these troops more conservatively... which is also a historical by-product of the game design.

Though most small satelite nations have some replacements. As far as I can tell. :niark: What you see at the beginning of the scenario is what you get for the whole campaign.

I tend to use them like a regular Corp/ Div. until they take about 1/2 to 3/4 casualties. Then I relegate them to garrison important cities. Free's up my french corps to continue advancing. :)

That's absolutely right. In some scenarios, minor nations start with a few replacement chits, but that's all you get.

Keep in mind that it's a favourite tactic of Coalition players to go after French allies because their forces are not as strong (at the element level) but the Victory Points for winning a battle against them are the same.

It's up to you to use the forces of minor nations wisely... as it appears you are doing.
