Just wanted to add, when I promoted one of the Prussian two star generals in Jena, his graphic didn't change- he went from ** to **. Was it Kalreuth? Though internaly in the engine there may have been a difference, I wouldn't know. I hope this gets fixed in the data base, because the "fun" aspect in this scenerio is trying to create a decent Prussian command structure before you get obliterated. Right now its hard to tell what you got and where you are headed; though that may be historical.
As an aside, the British had to buy their comissions because officers and their families typically had to pay for there own uniforms, mess, upkeep, ect. and their salaries couldn't meet these demands properly. This kept a certain class of person as officers in the army (wealthy, educated?), more so than aristocratic. If they couldn't afford the commission they couldn't afford the life. Maybe the British felt this kept the officers vested in the status quo of the nation and not a source of revolutionary ideas.
