Step by step as JastaV did with the transparent layer.
About the white border for backgroud ellipse, I suppose this is only for AACW, I think that in NCP it is not necessary?

Edit: Here is Foy (the name of the file is not right), so you understand What I mean about the hair and the background

There really is no easy way to do it. It is difficult and time consuming. I tend to use a small eraser tool set at about 35% opacity for these kinds of issues.

When the image is converted from working format to a .png all the layers are merged.

I have a pair of doubts:

Which is the simplest and fastest way to do the brown foreground?

When creating the transparent layer, is it possible to set first the size of the ellipse? I have noticed it is around 65 x 75 pixels

In the meantime I have made another two tests, Ernouf (as Gouvion Saint Cyr) and Fournier (as Duhesme), Ernouf already includes the transparent layer

Create a new image at 65 x 75 with a transparent background. Create the ellipse by going completely from one corner to the opposite. Now create another blank image at 81 x 81. Copy and paste the first into the second, center, then merge. You may want to do this all at the 3x resolution I mentioned before. (195 x 225, 243 x 243)

Jabberwock. I have a doubt about the files that go to gamedata/models.

In your mod you have mdl files included.

But for example if I paint the graphics of general Friant, what do I have to do with Friant mdl file, just change this line? From

Portrait = Unit_FRA_General1.png

to

Portrait = Unit_FRA_Friant.png

Is necessary any other change?

There are several generals that have more than one mdl file, what is the reason?

Thanks in advance ;)

Probably because some generals have multiple profiles in relations to different dates and campaigns.
I did not investigated that issue in detail but I noticed that in LGE_DB_Models_LGE36b excel file from NCP_BD pack.

NCP_BD pack collects excel files to be used as stating point for Campaign modding and new campaign editing.

Example:

Jozef Antoni Poniatowski has three such files:
ldr_FRA_Poniatowski1
ldr_FRA_Poniatowski2
ldr_FRA_Poniatowski3

Yes, just change that one line. Do it in each file; the different files are for various ranks, or possibly other changes in characteristics.

Jabberwock,
May you gently enlist the names of files envolved in Genrals profile and Generals Leader Special Abilities.......
Last time I attempted modding Leader Special Abilities I only got.....
.....some big crashes and hung-ups of NCP program. :p leure:

Thanks in advance

Thanks Jabberwock. Fortunately this is easy :cwboy:

I have a question and little quiz.

Do you know who is this general? And what do you prefer, with hair painted or without it :niark:

Yes, he is general Hautpoul.

Here is Gen Friant, the superb on-map unit and portrait have been edited by Nikel.

To add or change the on game displayed portrait & unit you have to locate matching Model_Name.mdl file.
In this example 1741FRA_Model_Name_FRA_Friant1.mdl

Open the file with a text editor, (notepad is OK), locate the "Portrait = ......" command line and edit here the exact Unit.png file name.

example:
Portrait = Unit_FRA_Friant.png

Save changes

That's all!
No need to edit for Army.png file address anywhere: NCP self manage Army.png file hased over Unit.png file.

Copy of 1741FRA_Model_Name_FRA_Friant1.mdl uploaded down here.

In the future I suggest to collect the three files, ( Army.png, Unit.png, Model.mdl ) to enable missing portraits in a unique pack.

P.S.: with Nikel permission, I'll be pleased to enable Friant into The Eagle's Returm Campaign mod as soon as I'll post a new version.

Of course, you can use it. They are made for that ;) I hope that more people will use them. Or perhaps will be included in a official patch, who knows :niark:

Yes, I am specially happy with Friant. I think that it is the best of the portraits I have finished so far. I am not that happy with others, the quality of the source portrait is very important.

About your campaign, of the generals that appear I have nearly finished Foy and Haxo. Foy is quite good too (already posted a screenshot), but Haxo is worse.

Today or tomorrow I will post what I had finished, complete package with 2 portraits and the mdl file. I will create a new thread in NCP mods forum

If you should joyn nikel in portrait editing we could soon run out of crude material to work over: guess, soon you both will be forced to go searching the net for new portrait-sources!

Now everybody is making portraits!? :grr: :fleb: :niark:

Carnium, I already posted a minimod with several portraits of french generals, Guilleminot included

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=9810

2 portraits are needed, one for units folder and one for armies and fleets folder and they are different, it is necessary to modify (very slightly) the mdl file in gamedata/models like answered above Jabber. Now I look like an expert :niark:

jastaV, the commanders you are requesting are very difficult to find or at least I found none, sorry.

I will do a few more portraits, but french generals only. I play with the french side and besides for some reason, there seems to be more portraits available of the french

Keep on the good work my friend :fleurs:

Seperate models are used and needed to portray him as a one, two and three star leader. Its the only way leaders are promotable within scenarios, and allows them to start at higher rank in later scenarios.

I'm not sure with that........
Guess, separate models are used to define different profiles for a leader: along time span Leader performance was changing. some leaders performed very well in a campaign and badly in others.
Some special ability were also related to the leader assigned command: Commit the Guard is proper of a leader assign to command Guard units, so you could have two profiles for when a leader start a campaign in charge of Guard Units or not.
I suppose profile selection and model used determine leader attributes at campaign start but are not needed for promotions.

HOPE SOMEONE EXPIRIENCED WITH AGEOD CODES COULD CLARIFY!
