Infantry types

Thu May 08, 2008 6:50 pm

three questions and two bug reports

1/ Are there real ingame differences between the symbols line infantry / light infantry /heavy infantry /guard infantry /militia infantry

2/ Why do cossacks regiments have the nato symbol "light cavalry" and are flagged as "raiders" ?

3/ How do you combine depleted regiments? I have never been able to do so. Is this feature broken or do I miss something?

1- the "NATO divisional symbol bug"
It occurs when you build a new division with cavalry units the game puts an infantry division symbol. it does seem to happen when you assign cavalry units to a general who was previously in charge of infantry.

2- the "wrong division name bug"
It seems that the division led by a given general in a scenario is allocated a certain name never be changes, even if the troops are totally different (for example you may very well have a general in charge of a "Reserve Cavalry cuirassier division" even if you have changed everything and he commands a line infantry division belonging to the I Corps. Generic but correct names for (re)created divisions ala "1st Infantry Division" would be much better than sticking with historical names that does not mean anything after formation shuffling. A rename unit feature would be a way to correct this bug (and would be coherent with the industry standard.)

Anyway a great game

1) The differences lie principally in two areas a) each symbol corresponds to a replacement pool (so militia units get replacements from the militia pool etc) and b) each unit has different attributes

2) Always asked myself the same question, though Cossacks could be classified as both.

3) If a depleted regiment is the equivalent of on element, you can't combine it with another depleted regiment that is another element to form a single, decent regiment. On the other hand if for example two brigades lose one of its regiments you can combine both regiments in order to reform the brigade.

The naming problem you found normally happens when a division is broken up and the same general then forms up another division on the same turn. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Hope it helps
