Promotions

G'day all and a very merry Christmas, I'm playing the Spanish scenario and want to promote Beresford, to a corps commander, his bio indicates I can promote him, but the promote button is always greyed out

Also I have notice there a 1/42nd foot in the OOB, this is a standard line regt, I thought 42 nd foot was a Highland regt (the Black Watch I think)

The description of the officer only states that you will be able to promote him if he gains enough seniority (4 points from his initial value if I remember correctly)...this has always cause some confusion, but that way you know wich officer you will be able to promote and wich ones no, no matter how well they do in battle...The log informs you when a general can be promoted, you must do it that same turn or else you loose the chance until he gains enough seniority again...Also, if the general is a division commander you must remove any element attached to the division and I think you must also remove the general from the stack if he is in one.

As for the reason why not everyone is promotable, I guess it has to do with historical accuracy and avoiding the impossible situation of everyone being a 3 stars general (or the equivalent rank)

Regarding the 42nd regiment, I don´t know

Regarding the 42nd Regiment, you are correct. The 'Forty Twa' is the Highland Black Watch Regiment.
