Linux or wine?

Thu Oct 25, 2007 9:06 am

Has anyone tried to run Napoleon on Linux under wine? I am assuming that it will not run at all but if it does, I'll be able to play at lunchtimes at work.

I won't whine for a linux version as that would be hard.

BOA worked on wine, albeit a bit slowly. So Napo should works on it, slowly...

Okay, I'll give that a try.

Will it be usable with the download version of the game? -- yeah, I know, I am close to whining about wine here. ;>

Do share your experiences though! I'm a WINE rookie (though not a rookie at whining ;) ), and in my limited attempts, I haven't gotten very far, so I'd be very interested if people are able to get any further, and if so, how they got there.

Update wine to the latest release version then:
$ wine /path/to/disk_or_install_file/setup.exe
Follow what it says. Try running the game and see what happens -- hint: it generally crashes with some horrible message.

Wine is great when it just works. If not, you have to go to their site and submit a bug report/feature request. Make sure you offer to beta test anything. It maybe worth trying the latest development version as well.

Yup, that's just about as far as I got.

If I had time to follow up on it, I might've done so. Since I have no porblems playing the games as is, I'll just wait and see, I guess :)

Once I get the game, I'll see if I can get it run at work under Linux. I'll write a small how to here if it works... It probably won't.

Downloaded the game today -- was taken hostage by revolutionary syndicates in Paris during the weekend.

I tried to install it on Linux. The game installed fine but does not run. If anyone here has more experience with wine, here is the debug. I am running wine-0.9.30 on Linux 2.6.18.8.
