Changing turn length

Fri Nov 09, 2007 5:37 pm

I was wondering, before looking into it to deeply, what would be required to change the turn length? For a scenario I am now working on I would love to include the possibility of small skirmishes along the way but with the 15 day turn it doesn't work the way I would like it to. Also the 7 day turn instead of 15 will allow me to some different things that don't seem possible at 15 days.

For a campaign 15 days is perfect, otherwise the game would last forever. For a short scenario 7 day turns seem ideal to me and what I want to do. I want the scenario to last longer than a handful of turns and really get into it. It will allow for different movement patterns and make room for more strategy and maneuvering. I feel it will allow greater control over the situation and since the nature of scenarios are a single battle, or revolve around one major battle, hence being short and confined to a max of a couple months typically I feel the short turn is benefitial.

Any ideas, suggestions, comments?

PT is of the opinion that it'll be a fair amount of work: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=6232

Apart from that, I think it's an interesting idea that warrants exploration, especially for the shorter scenarios :)

Thanks Pocus, did that last night and was surprised how simple it was ;-) Going to play around and see if there is any issues with that.

I did the same in the BOA scens (30 days to 15 days), and it was very easy to make new scenarios. Now that you mention the supply usage, I think I noticed the increase drain on supplies when moving a large force.

However, I noticed that building a depot or a fort, still required 2 turns. Very nice. Regarding the depot, the game even informs (after the first turn or 15 days), that 1 day still remains until the depot is completed.

This looks like a good idea. Can you tell me where the command, TurnsPerYear, is? Also, will it have an effect on movement? In other words, is it still good to play after you change the turn length, I guess is the question.

Thanks in advance...
