event parameter question

Tue Aug 21, 2007 3:03 pm

StartEvent = evt_nam_USA_ReinforceSumter1861|1|2|evt_txt_USA_ReinforceSumter1861|Event-img_USA_ReinforceSumter1861|$Ft Sumter, SC|109

what is the function of the parameters?

evt_nam_USA_ReinforceSumter1861=event name
1=?
2=?
evt_txt_USA_ReinforceSumter1861=long text
Event-img_USA_ReinforceSumter1861=image
$Ft Sumter, SC=region
109=?

thanks

Have you checked out the Excel files that Pocus has made available for download (stickied at the top of these forums)? They provide a somewhat better context and viewing format for the events.

(At least, I imagine they do; haven't used them much myself)

109 has something to do with entrenchment level. I think (not sure) 1 and 2 give the chances of the event firing on each eligible turn.

1)

SelectFaction = $USA
StartEvent = evt_jbhood_USA_HabeasCorpus|1|2|evt_txt_jbhood_USA_HabeasCorpus|Event-img_USA_LincolnReelected1864|NULL|NULL
Conditions
FixedDate = 1863/09/15
End Event

what do i have to edit, that this event will always fire at 1863/09/15?
is an "action" trigger always needed?

2) what do i have to do to make the prison exchange option disappear (in the politics ledger)?

3) what is the trigger to change to martial law?

4) If i handle recruiting via events (flavor brigades) is it possible subtract money and go negative?

example: you spend all your money; you gain 50 money next turn, via event you get 2 brigades (cost 60 money) too. so do you have negative money, or only 1 brigade?

so many questions, i know, but i´m working on a historical campaign mod, and i want to sort these things out before i start working on a big scale.

thanks

At some point, we have to start cataloging what little we understand, come to understand, and have shared with us. Or this all goes *poof*

Maybe we could convince Primasprit, Stonewall, McNaughton, Hancock, and Jagger to create a wiki section for this, in their copious free time.

EDIT: No slight intended to Clovis, Gray_Lensman or anyone else. That's the problem with lists, you always forget something . . .

Indeed.

In my experience, people hesitate to start writing wiki articles about something they aren't entirely sure of, like e.g. modding AACW.

However, that's not the way it needs to be. Even a single-line article is a start that others can build upon. If there are things you're unsure of, it's OK to indicate that. If there are glaring holes, it's OK to indicate that too, or simply let them stand out by themselves to let others fill them.

Truth of the matter is, *any* documentaton on this is better than what there is now, which is basically *no* documentation, at least not collected in a form that allows easy overview and reference.

If you have the slightest bit of modding knowledge, but hesitate because you don't know how to edit the wiki (or create new pages or whatnot), then I'll be more than happy to be of help, be it by IM, PM, E-mail or wiki talk-page :)

I would like...unfortunatly, I haven't very much free time...

I'm now testing a new version of my mod against CSA AI. I would like to have the time to do the same versus Union AI, test a new mod ( removing Fredericsburg VP value), understand how events work to create some... I can't :p leure:

Additionally, if there actually is something in written format, then Pocus and others will be more likely to make corrections of what we've written. A form of proofreading, if you will. Because I happen to know they want some documentation for some things at this point.

StartEvent = Name|Occurences|DisplayType|EventText|EventPic|Region|Sound

Occurences: Integer; How often the event can occur (from 0 to 999)
Name: String; the event name, also the alias for a localized string in the string file
DisplayType: 0, 1, 2 ; Mute, line-event, Full-event
EventText: String; Alias for the event text in the string file or NULL
EventPic: Filename for the event picture (Full events) or NULL
Region: Alias for the Region where the event occurs or NULL. Use NULL if you do a conditional region selection in the event.
Sound: String: Filename for the event sound or NULL

The condition 'FixedDate' does this.
If you don't add an Action section the event does nothing.

2) what do i have to do to make the prison exchange option disappear (in the politics ledger)?

3) what is the trigger to change to martial law?

Sorry, don't know either, but I can try to find out (once I am back home).

example: you spend all your money; you gain 50 money next turn, via event you get 2 brigades (cost 60 money) too. so do you have negative money, or only 1 brigade?

If you create brigades via event you don't have to pay for them. But you can subtract money in the same event if you like.

Cheers

The problem is that I don't have the time at the moment to create such an documentation (aside from my limited knowledge), but I am working on a small project which might ease the whole process up a bit. Don't hesitate to contact me if there are questions regarding the script language. You may also write me an e-mail to primasprit@gmx.de.

Is there any documentation anywhere (beta papers, anything)? It's fairly straightforward to convert docs into a wiki format, if such are available :)

To remove an option, you have to set its maxuse to 0

so in the USA events file seek

evt_nam_USA_PrisonerExchange1862

copy the line but set MaxUse to 0 in the parameters.

When you speak of martial law, you speak of the option or a particular domestic policy for a given state? The latter can't be done. The former is done as the prisoners exchanges.

Hi Rafiki!

I have some kind of command list which I created for personal use. I could clean that up a bit and post it. But it does not contain any descriptions, only syntax of the script language.

Exactly! It will get fleshed out via discussion and testing. But it is much easier to get started if we have a list to start with.

This is promising! Can we get it for the Wiki? Seems the best format to discuss and alter this command list.

Speaking of single line articles:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?p=42860#post42860

You can probably figure out a better way to organize this visually than I can - I'm not all that good with the Wiki edit language yet, as you could probably tell from the 7 changes it took me to add the modpath section. :D

OK, here it is. (2 Versions of the file: Word and Open Office)
It is not complete but cover the most commands normally used for scenarios and event-scripts. I will add the missing keywords gradually.

Have fun!

I've started setting up the framework (much inspired by Jabberwock's overview in the other thread :) Anyone with any knowledge about anything is invited to share their knowledge and experiences. Anyone with opinions about hwo this best can be done is invited to voice them and act upon them.

(And if you don't consider yourself invited now, you just haven't thought enough about it ;) )

Thanks for the file Primasprit; enough info there to provide a lot of useful information. Will start adding stuff as I get the time to do so :)

I'm way behind on adding these things to the wiki (never knew there were so many of them!), but intend to catch up in a foreseeable future.
