Areas for Units

Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:56 pm

I've been modding some new units and I've run across some areas for some units in the current scenarios that I have a question about.

I don't see these in the regions and cities spreadsheet so where are they defined?
$Northern_Missouri
$Northern_Missouri
$Shenandoah_Valley

These states aren't even on the map as a state so what regions get units assigned to these areas?
$Connecticut
$New_Hampshire
$Rhode_Island
$Maine
$Vermont

Boston is a box considered part of New England. I'm assuming this area will put units there.
$Massachussett

Can you set the area for a unit to a specific region instead of a state for units that get recruited?

all areas are defined in the areas.ini file, in the gamedata directory

You can create an area which has one region only, for your special unit.

Thanks. I take it this file we edit directly? I dont' see a spreadsheet that generates this. Or am I missing something?

that depends, the areas representing states and theaters are generated automatically with CSVsplitter, using regions.xls... but the others are to be added by hand: special recruitment areas, or areas used in events for example.

once you add an area, you have to add its reference in the area aliases.ini file, in the aliases directory (same level as gamedata). Then you use this reference in the unit definition for example. The hierarchy of the area must be -1.
