Mod question for Pocus....

Tue Aug 07, 2007 3:43 pm

Since you were away there has been a great deal of activity around Mods. There is a leader Mod, i think there is a weather Mod somewhere, there are graphics mods, there are Mods changing strategic citys values, there is even a Mod that tries to combine many of these. I am sure I am leaving some out. I am using the Leader Mod because it seemed to make sence to me. Many of the others look good (especially weather mod) also but I am reluctant to try them without the blessing of you and the AGEOD guys. My question to you is, what are your intentions for all these? How do you feel about the changes? Will there be an official patch including all or at least some of these changes?
I know you are hard at work on the new game but it seems to me that there is much improvement yet to be done here as well.
I look forward to your answer.

We would like to review all of them, and potentially all of them can be incorporated. We requested some (weather mod), we already gave our approval on others (leader mod) and the others are anyway a good move from the community. But we must be wary of any side effects, for example the leader mod can potentially affects events, so we will need to check it toroughly.

Why do we want to adopt officially mods? Because, even if we did our best to provide an accurate ACW game, we are essentially 2 guys for code and data (now three with Celtic) and there is absolutly no way for us to achieve perfect accuracy by ourselves, so we rely on this kind of 'open source' help. I would like to emphasize again on that, because some of you here don't like that much players input: the game is not written in stone, and has always room for improvements. So either we forbid any changes, or we allow them and the grunt work is to be done by modders. The third option, that we research and then apply these changes ourselves is not realistic, as we must spend a significant time on new projects now.

So to sum up: if a mod is considered finalized by his author, contact us and we will review it.

I would like some doc about event scripting. I've yet to figure precisely how conditions and commands work... :siffle:

I will see what we have, but I fear there is no compilated doc on that. Have you read the relevant threads of this forum, there is already a bunch on infos on scripting.
