Assets Board text Mod

Sat Apr 25, 2009 3:00 am

-Updated attached file-
Quick little mod to the Assets Board at the top of the screen.
Adds text alongside the icons (for dummies like me that always forget what the icons mean :D )

Install: place new AssetsBoard.png file into the \AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Graphics\FrontEnd\MainBar folder
(as always, make copy of original first)
Also you see a small preview of a river names mod, how do you guys like the shadow under the names?

Not a huge fan of the text at the top, looks too crowded to me personally, but I love the river names, those look quite good. :)

Thanks Spharv2,

Yep, the text is crowded.
My thinking is that I wanted the font to be big so that a player can see "at a glance" and quickly, what each column is for.
Thankfully the player doesn't have to spend much "eye time" actually reading the text, just a quick glance.
Easy fix to make the font smaller if needed.

I don't see the reason to have both the text + icon. Why don't you drop the icon and see how you like it, unless you prefer both of course.

Yep, I do like both Text+Icon.
I don't think text alone conforms to the Ageod style.

Here is an update:

Gray,
Wow, thanks.

I have a few questions (for now) and want to clarify what is already done.
The mod is about 14MB .rar'd, 56 regions changed (112 total).

The mod has 2 version, Plain Text (similar to the original Ageod names) and Shadow Text similar to the screenshots, although IMO the shadow is currently too big in the screenshots. (edit-just remembered, the shadowed regions aren't done yet, should take only a few days to make them)

-Do you want the Plain Text or the Shadowed Text?

Curently, the mod adds names for the previously un-named rivers only (the smaller rivers and a few extra names along the major rivers)

-Do you want only these additional names or are you talking about re-doing all river names on the map in a new style?

-Any idea what the original Ageod font is?
-Is the "Comprehensive patch" 1.13b? Can I just use the new region files in 1.13b?

An idea I have is to space out the names of Major rivers.
There are a few different ways I was looking into doing it, here is an example: (the font is wrong and the drop shadow is too big here)

Another wacky idea, different from rivers, is to name the major Railroads.
It would be done subtly, in a very small brown font, spread out all along the line, similiar to old period maps. Might be too difficult to pull off nicely though.
-Any interest in that sort of thing? It would be easier to do it now I think. I'll try and make a few examples for you later.

Here is a 2 year old thread we can move the river discussion to:
