Thanks again, thats a lot of faces put to names!
I understand from my own attempts just how much work and time goes into doing these and then tying them to the model file so they show up.

Thanks Jabber! :coeurs:
There were more generals with this problem or is it enough to reinstal D Miles?

There were more. I did a clean install of 1.09, then redid all my models.

Maybe he just got drunk and wandered off?
The portrait was there, the problem was in the new model file.
I've re-U/Led the zip with the correction

Great work, Jabber and Jack. Keep them coming :coeurs:

Two minor points:
- 63.zip file seems to overwrite a model of the 62 file - 552USAR. Schenck (date stamp 4/3/08 over 21/2/08). Is this intended ?
- E.P. Alexander seems to me extremely faded

1. Yes, when I redid the models files I noticed that I had left one of Schenk's models in the '62 zip ('63 is the correct place). The two files should be identical, except for the date stamp.
2. OK, Alexander moves from #3 to #1 on the redo list. I was working from a very low-res photo, have since found the same picture in a higher resolution. I'll have a new version of him in the next update. (Hopefully Sunday)

Jabberwock, if you're taking requests, cool.

Please redo Benjamin Grierson. His game portrait is subpar (oversized, blotchy) and rather annoying to look at.

Hi Cleburne -
Welcome. The graphics are loaded when the game starts up. You probably need to save your game, turn off AACW, and restart it.

First of all : thanks for the fantastic work you did! Having the missing generals (and no q-marks any more) add so much to the game. It looks like after the Geography Master I will now also get an expert in civil generals through playing this game.

I have just one observation. is it just me or do all generals portraits look younger and less worn out than their real counterparts? I have looked at a lot of pictures at this site

http://www.generalsandbrevets.com

and while I could recognize all portraits almost instantly (!) I made this observation ..

Anyway, not wanting to gripe .. great work!!

Good observation!

1. Many of the pictures on that site were taken post-war.
2. More detail = older look, less detail = younger look. Simplicity and size reduction make all the pictures look younger. Pictures done from drawings or portraits will definitely look younger.
3. In one or two cases I knowingly worked from pre-war pictures (Stevenson, for example) because they were more distinctive ... easier to recognize. I tried to 'age' those a bit.
4. It is difficult to give graying hair the proper hue to look correct.

AJ Smith
Alpheus Williams

63 USA
Frank Blair
Peter Osterhaus
John Wilder (by Jackfox)

sorry berto - I didn't get to Grierson this time. I have found a nice pic to use as a model for him, maybe in the next update.

Great news! Thanks to both! :coeurs: :coeurs:

By the way, one question/comment... :innocent:

I notice that on some generals portraits (especially Winder (CSA) but also Butterfield (USA) if i remember right) their heads are lower than usual.
It's this intended because they were of short stature?
Winder in particular looks rather funny on the units panel as he seems to strive to get his head above the stripe with his name... barely succeeding :niark:

Regards!

That was one of the earlier ones I did. Pocus noticed that, too. He needs to be redone. I think Butterfield was short, but no reason his portrait needs to be. Of all the leaders, I think Hindman was the shortest.

yes, some reformating would be cool :)

Also what about my suggestion to sharpen some portraits? You don't seem to be eager doing that. I usually find that they are slightly too blurry compared to what Sandra did (no offence meant!)

Yes quite the stunty 'Shorty Hindman' :tournepas , i dont see how the persons height should be reflected in the picture. Unless the guy had elephantitus of the head they should all be the same size.

The latest ones have all been sharpened, although I noticed Hunt's final version still looks blurry. I've been trying to pick the one one or two worst of the older ones for each update to rework and sharpen. How about for this next week I'll just work on sharpening and repositioning.

Appears with the Lightning Brigade - June '63.

He was the clueless colonel who needed to ask Buckner's advice whether he should surrender at Munfordville, KY in '62, when the brigade was surrounded by Bragg's whole army. After parole they were re-equiped as mounted infantry. Apparently he was a quick study, he became one of the better brigadiers in the west.

Jabber

Have you contacted Pocus for the inclusion or your wonderful portraits on the next official patch??
I realy hope there is no problem with it and you can submit your work for the soon to be releases 1.10 patch. :innocent:
I can't imagine playing the game without them, but i suspect most of
the players doesn't even know about this mod existence. Having them "officialiced" would be great for everybody! :coeurs:

It's been a couple of weeks since I last heard from Jabber by email. I was getting the idea that we were pretty close to finishing off the portraits, but I'm not sure what's happened to him. If he doesn't show in the next few days, I'll post a small batch of portraits that I completed.
