I did a BAD Thing Enhanced the CSA

Out of curiosity I gave the CSA a bost to conscripts, Supplies and Money. I gave them let us say a multifacetted bond Drives as well as released some generals earlier in the war just to see what would happen. You really can aquire massive troop build up during the initial phase of the war as well as get a good Navy to counteract the North. I did this both ways from the default and the mod.

It seems by late 62 regardless of troops the CSA was losing in NM. Here is the Thing. I invaded Boston with a massive fleet and 50k troops and lost the assault.

I invaded DC with 2 Armies 8 Corps over 150k Troops and Lost, They had 25k. Had a cavalry division led by Forrest that had experience lose to 2 brigades of Infantry and no supply.

I had Quantrill and Bushwackers defeat a division of Union outside of St Louis.

Morgan did a raid with 2 Partisan Units go against a militia unit in Ky around Lexiton and Lose.

The question I have:
Is the south preprogrammed to lose the war in this game?

Definately not. I just won a game as the CSA...

Although, I will say this: "victory" for the CSA is anything other than complete annihilation. There's most certainly a (well justified) bias towards the CSA loosing.

It seems by late 62 regardless of troops the CSA was losing in NM.

The only question here is what did you loose? The CSA is fragile, and AACW models that pretty well in my opinion. Mopping the floor against the Union is part of the process of course, but simply playing out the war is what is really required for the South.

How did you do it? I am also planning to do something similar to increase the difficulty (see my "thread giving the AI more troops").

And could you give me some figures, I am not sure what would be the right amounts to add to the AI, maybe we can exchange our experience to find a good balance.

I modified the leaders file so Lee will come in early, forrest etc. I added money to the scenario 1861 a file and edited the start money conscripts etc. Then I edited the events file for release of certain units early. I gave Ironclads to the north to counter my Massive fleet stuff. I added more renforcement numbers. I will post the exact lines in a bit for a better look see

I've been content to play with the patches as they come. I've never dipped into any scenario files before, but this post made me curious what the more formidable CSA would be like.

I tried to make the changes suggested above but got the message: Cannot create the C:\Program Files\AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Scens\1861 April Campaign.scn. file.

Make sure that the path and file name are correct.


I assume I am missing something obvious. I've never tried to modify a file for this game before. I did try to modify the file for an individual turn. The expected balances appeared to be inflated, but once the next turn came it was back to it's original balance. I have never experienced a strategy game before that had multiple files for each turn, so perhaps that has something to do with my confusion. If anyone could give me a clue or point me to a thread that might be helpful, well gee that'd be swell.

You have tocopy the file to the desktop , edit there and then move back the file...make a backup of the original....also for the leader file you have to edit that as well as the event file
