Army vanishes when general dies?

Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:33 am

I had assembled a fairly large ERE army in order to teach the Huns a lesson. However, when the army's general died (out of a random event, I guess), the whole army disappeared and I was left with nothing! :grr:

Is this a bug or is it deliberate?

I do not know. Why the general dies? What is this event exactly?
AI could have played a stratagem against you...
Also, attrition?
There could be many causes.

Many thanks for your answer.

I received a message: "XXX has died in YYY." for two ERE generals, in different provinces.

But it is not so much that the general died.

What I was surprised at was that my whole army disappeared. But maybe that is due to a Strategem, as you said. Are there such Stratagems that cause armies to disappear?

There's a stratagem that revolts an army ("Mutiny"), and onther one that suppress the revolt. So, if played in couple, and both successful, you can eliminate an army.

Another stratagem could be "Desertion"...

Otherwise, battles in "independent" provinces against "natives" often bring to such elimination, due to the terrible combat power of natives.

There are a lot of possible reasons, and I'm a bit puzzled about that...

On the other hand, probably the death of your general is a consequence of such army annihilation, not the cause! Yes, I think it's the effect of a devastating stratagem! :sourcil:
