Being informed of major public events on the other side

One thing I miss is that you don't get notification about major events on the other side, e.g. the USA would know if the CSA called for full mobilization, and one would probably know some rough numbers about unit production (could be subject to various accuracy modifiers, I guess)

Agreed. Major civilian-affecting policy decisions (drafts, financials, cotton embargos, habeus corpus, etc...) like that would be blabbed about in great detail, in newspapers on both sides. So, it be nice to see them listed in the events section.
