---> AACW Public Beta Patch 1.09b

Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:42 pm

Dear players,

Here is the 2nd iteration of Public Beta Patch 1.09:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/latest/patch_AACW_v1.09b.zip

[1.09b]
- IP was still polled somewhere.
- Some events were duplicated in the Various events script (fix by Gray_Lensman)
- fixed: in some cases non-legit combinations of units were allowed.

This patch remove all IP address calling. This is the focus of this patch. The number of guns glitches are not yet fixed, as this is a pure chrome glitch and don't alter gameplay.

this is a frequent fault for us, french people, as cannon is written "canon" in french

Language is fascinating, isn't it?
From Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

can·on
Pronunciation: \ˈka-nən\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English, from Late Latin, from Latin, ruler, rule, model, standard, from Greek kanōn
Date: before 12th century
1 a: a regulation or dogma decreed by a church council b: a provision of canon law
2[Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin, from Latin, model] : the most solemn and unvarying part of the Mass including the consecration of the bread and wine
3[Middle English, from Late Latin, from Latin, standard] a: an authoritative list of books accepted as Holy Scripture b: the authentic works of a writer c: a sanctioned or accepted group or body of related works <the canon of great literature>
4 a: an accepted principle or rule b: a criterion or standard of judgment c: a body of principles, rules, standards, or norms
5[Late Greek kanōn, from Greek, model] : a contrapuntal musical composition in which each successively entering voice presents the initial theme usually transformed in a strictly consistent way

I regards to the “Public Beta Patch 1.09b” when will it be come an official patch and not a beta patch? (I have the 1.09 patch installed)

To change the subject:
In the above (“Public Beta Patch 1.09b”) I know I can click on the reply button to your post because it was related. But I have done several searches on other topics and sometimes I do not find answers to a specific question and there is no related post to reply to. What is the best procedure for posting about a specific question?

Also Pocus, I notice it says your are Lead Developer, who could I contact about a new game being developed?

Thanks

Open a new thread about it, in the forum you think seems to suit it best and with a nice, descriptive subject :)

My guess is when it is considered fully tested, stable and ready to release :niark:

In fact, I think you guys are quite cool, for being able to communicate so well in more than one language, a feat that I could never come close to duplicating.

I am constantly impressed by other people's command of multiple languages, particularly based on my experience while stationed in Europe as an Army troop many years ago. This compares w/ my own limited command of one language (my three years of high school Latin was pretty useless). Also, the knowledge of U.S. military history outside of the U.S., e.g., the ACW, often amazes me. OTOH, my own non-U.S. military history interest/knowledge is limited to WW1 and WW2.

I am a "language-challenged" indivdual. Yankee-American [it isn't really English, is it?] is my limit... :siffle:

I gave up when a merchant in Quebec chased me out to my car, his fist waving, after I tried to say something nice to him in French..... :non:

I am truly impressed by the excellent English being used by the people on these forums who are not 'native speakers'. :king:

Well ... All kind of Dictatorships (both legal & illegal) have tried to destroy all but the "official" language all around the world since millenia.

Here in Spain all kinds of language (not the spanish -> castellano) were forbiben & prosecuted just 30 years ago.

Jut a few days ago read about a woman in the Alaska state who was the last one that spoke a rare native language... (she could not teach his child as seems USA government forbided its use also some years ago)-> lost forever.

In Spain 100% people learns spanish language
AND around 40% of the population learn 2-languages as they grow (our fathers have transmitted us over centuries)...

...Although most of the other 60% can not understand the other languages, as they are only (fortunately since 30 years ago) teached in school only in the original regions... Fortunately for them we can comunicate in spanish of course

100% known (well surely 99%) -> Spanish ->
cañón

a) Català -> 25% populace can understand it (with a lot of variants... mallorquí / valencià / aranes...) ->
canó

b) Galego -> 8% pop. in spain (and a lot more perhaps x2 dispersed around the world) ->
canón

c) Euskara -> 4 % pop (a very hard language with lots of variants) ->
Im not sure if really a name for cannon is in this language... i believe ->
kanoi

There are some other minoritary languages also... asturianu, aragonés,...

Interesting...I live in Arizona and my ex-wife was Hispanic and fluent in "Arizona" Spanish (was actually her native language but was not allowed to speak Spanish in school). I had a very, very limited command of Spanish through her and her family. Fast forward some years later and I was dating a woman from Puerto Rico. Although her mother was from the island, her father was a Spanish native (can't remember from what area of Spain). Anyhoo, I was amazed at the differences in Spanish pronunciations, etc. between S.E United States and the Espana Spanish she spoke.

Not surprising. 'American English' has many regional [and sub-regional] ways to pronounce words.

Just listen to a NASCAR race broadcast. I still wonder what they're saying at times [tar = tire, all = oil, 'blowd up'] :niark: :niark: :niark:

...of course, 'they' would say the same about my 'Yankee talk'.... :siffle:

Yep same for me...I grew up in NW Ohio where we substituted an "a" for words that ended in "o", e.g., Ohio became Ohia.

We Americans wish for immigrants to become Americans. They will not prosper the way we would like unless they learn to speak and read English. T

Consider yourself lucky in that at least American regional accents are understandable if sometimes a bit difficult. In the UK, the regional accents can be impossible for outsiders to understand. If a Weegie (Glasgow native) or a Geordie (Newcastle native) chooses to speak in his native English and not the Queen's English, you will be hard pressed to understand a single word. Even in my neck of the woods, the Doric can make the local English virtually impossible to understand even to other Scots (example: Fit like? = How are you doing?). Aberdeen's nickname to the rest of Scotland is 'Furry Boot Town', because when an Aberdonian asks where do you come from, he says 'Far aboot ya come frae?'.

I will take NASCAR English or Yankee Talk anytime.

Having been to Wales and Scotlands a couple of time I can confirm what Le Ricain says. Regional differences are much greater than I expected. People look different, talk different and in some areas it will become difficult to figure out sentence structure, even though they are obviously trying.

I also find that in many areas people seem to be obsessed with their home town being the only decent place in the world. Like for instance a bartender in Bath did his best to convinve me that if I should ever make the mistake of going to Bristol I should expect a bartender there would do all sorts of bad things to me .. in other words, I would find the town to be occupied by psychos. Strange was that there was hardly any irony intended. I mean it would have been funny if he was obviously just talking shit but he really meant it!
